02 7264 1329 (0272641329): Scammer impersonating Visa Security claims fraudulent card activity in NZ, requests remote access and payment authorisation.

Visa Security Impersonation Reports for 02 7264 1329

One contributor has reported a scam call from 02 7264 1329 (also written as 0272641329) involving impersonation of Visa's security department. The caller, identifying himself as "Steve" with an Indian accent, claimed the contributor's card was being actively misused for large unauthorised transactions in New Zealand. This is a classic impersonation scam designed to create urgency and panic, pushing the victim toward immediate compliance with harmful instructions.

The caller from 0272641329 alleged that "thousands and thousands" of dollars were being spent on the account in real-time. This fabricated emergency claim is the core manipulation tactic - it pressures victims to act without thinking and to trust the caller's "help."

What the Caller from 02 7264 1329 Requested

The scammer's demands escalated through multiple harmful requests. First, he asked the contributor to authorise cancellation of the fraudulent charges - a request that, if complied with, could expose banking credentials or trigger unauthorised transactions. More critically, the caller then demanded remote access to the contributor's account to "post a refund."

This remote access request is the most dangerous phase of the scam. Allowing remote control of your device or online banking session gives the scammer full visibility of your financial accounts, passwords, and personal information. The refund claim is purely fictitious - the real goal is account takeover and theft.

The contributor recognised the red flags immediately, refused all requests, and disconnected. The fact that 0272641329 made escalating demands (cancellation, then remote access, then payment) follows a deliberate social engineering sequence designed to overcome initial resistance.

Why This Call Is a Scam

Legitimate Visa or your bank will never:

  • Call you unexpectedly claiming your card is being used fraudulently right now
  • Ask you to authorise charges or refunds verbally over the phone
  • Request remote access to your device or online banking to "fix" the problem
  • Create artificial urgency by claiming thousands are being stolen in real-time
  • Ask you to stay on the line while you take action

Visa and your bank have existing fraud monitoring systems. Any genuine fraud alert would direct you to call the number on your card (not a number the caller provides) or to log into your official banking app to verify and dispute transactions.

What to Do If You Receive a Call from 02 7264 1329

If 02 7264 1329 calls you:

  • Do verify independently: If you're concerned about your card, log into your banking app yourself (not via any link the caller provides) and review recent transactions. Contact your bank's fraud team directly
  • Do report: Report the call to Scamwatch and the ACMA - both track these impersonation patterns to protect other Australians

SCAM!!!!!!!

Indian “Steve” claimed to be from “Visa Security Department” called to say my card is being used as we speak in New Zealand. Said the scammers are spending “thousands and thousands” on my account.

Wanted me to authorise him to cancel these charges.

Wanted to remote access my account so he could post a refund.

I told him to get a real job, hung up on him and blocked the number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I ever give remote access to someone claiming to be from Visa or my bank?

No, never. Legitimate financial institutions will never ask for remote access to fix fraud. If 02 7264 1329 or any caller requests remote access, hang up immediately and block the number. Your bank can verify fraud through secure backend systems without touching your device.

What should I do if I already gave the caller from 0272641329 remote access?

Act immediately. Disconnect your device from the internet, change your banking passwords from a different device, contact your bank's fraud team directly using the number on your card, and monitor your accounts closely for unauthorised activity. Consider a credit freeze or fraud alert with the Australian Information Security Regulator if you shared sensitive identity information.

Is it ever normal for Visa or my bank to call about fraud and ask me to authorise something?

Legitimate fraud calls from your bank will never ask you to authorise charges or refunds on the phone. They'll ask you to verify transactions you don't recognise, then handle the reversal themselves. If 02 7264 1329 or another number makes unusual requests, hang up and call your bank directly using the trusted number on your card.

Why would the scammer claim my card was being used in New Zealand specifically?

Geographic specificity makes the lie more convincing. By naming a country, the scammer makes the fraud claim feel real and urgent. In reality, 0272641329 has no access to your accounts or transaction history - it's pure fabrication designed to panic you into compliance.

How does the scammer know my card details if they're calling me cold?

Scammers often work with stolen data from breaches, or they use generic claims that sound plausible ("your Visa card") without actually knowing anything. The caller from 02 7264 1329 didn't mention specific card numbers or amounts - just vague "thousands and thousands" - which is how cold scammers operate.

What if I'm genuinely worried about fraud on my account after receiving a call from 0272641329?

Don't rely on the caller's claims. Log into your banking app yourself (using your saved login details, not any link provided) and review your recent transactions. If you see unfamiliar activity, contact your bank's fraud team directly using the number on your card. They have real access to your account and can verify and dispute transactions securely.
