Nature of the Scam

Claimed to be from Telstra, Exhibition Street, Melbourne. Woman had a strong accent (sounded Indian) and was calling from a busy call centre, and she claimed that she was from Telstra and that my internet served had been compromised. She said that she could help me through it over the phone. She then asked if I had a Windows computer. I said yes. She said then she would put me through to her colleague who could help me. I said I wanted to confirm that they were from Telstra, and they said that they could provide me with my ID address number to show that they really were. I was suspicious so I asked him for his Telstra ID number, to which he said it very very quickly (D3509), but then it changed the second time he said it. I said I would report him, and he said it was well within my rights too, and that I would find out that they were indeed from Telstra. I then called Telstra and they confirmed it must have been a hacking call. Very frightening, it sounded very real, and I can imagine my parents would have been fooled if they were home to take the call.
