PayPal Impersonation and Remote Access Scam Reports for 07 2150 9290

One contributor has flagged calls from 07 2150 9290 (also written as 0721509290) for a sophisticated PayPal impersonation scam involving remote access exploitation. The caller identifies himself as Tyler Walsh and claims to represent PayPal's security section, alleging that someone overseas has accessed the recipient's credentials and hijacked their phone from a foreign location. This is a highly structured social engineering attack designed to trick victims into installing malicious remote access software.

The scam targeting 0721509290 uses a specific technical manipulation tactic. The caller instructs the victim to perform a web search for "my ip country" on their mobile device via Safari. When the search returns an IP address beginning with 66.249.x.x, the caller falsely claims this IP location represents the overseas attacker's last connection point. This manufactured sense of urgency and false technical evidence is designed to overcome the victim's natural hesitation before requesting installation of the AnyViewer application.

What Callers from 07 2150 9290 Do and Say

The contributor reported that callers from 07 2150 9290 are highly persistent and convincing in their delivery. When the victim begins asking questions about the alleged security breach or the legitimacy of the caller, they immediately offer to transfer the call to the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission), which reportedly happens instantly. This false authority verification is designed to appear legitimate while actually remaining within the scammer's control.

The primary demand from callers using 07 2150 9290 is installation of the AnyViewer application. AnyViewer is genuine remote access software, but in this context it is weaponised to give the scammers complete control over the victim's phone, including access to banking apps, payment systems, stored credentials, and personal data. The contributor emphasised the danger: once AnyViewer is installed via the scammer's instructions, the victim's device is fully compromised.

Report Patterns and Technical Details

This single report about 07 2150 9290 describes a call received in May 2026. The contributor's detailed account indicates the scam has evolved significantly from basic phishing attempts. The use of legitimate IP lookup tools (returning real Google IP addresses) combined with false interpretation of those results demonstrates technical sophistication designed to exploit victims' limited technical knowledge. The instant transfer to a fake ACCC representative shows the scammers have refined their social engineering scripts to handle objections.

The allocation data shows 0721509290 is provisioned as a local service number in Queensland via Symbio Networks Pty Ltd, giving the number apparent legitimacy when displayed on caller ID.

Tyler Walsh angry.

Caller: (0Z) 2159 9290 - calls himself Tyler Walsh with Indian access.

This number is a dangerous scam. They pretend they are from the security section at PayPal and they are ringing to tell you that someone from overseas has accessed your credentials, hijacked your phone, from an overseas country location. They get you to run a safari web search on your mobile "my ip country" that provides a result with an IP 66.249.x.x. On that basis of that result, they tell you that someone from the location with IP 66.249.x. X was the last connection from your mobile. They want to install the app called "anyviewer" so they can install an extra line into the firewall on your mobile as protection against your phone being hijacked.

"Anyviewer" gives them complete remote access to your phone. DOn't DO IT. If you start asking questions they offer to put you through to the ACCC - which happens instantly. Very persistent and very convincing but THEY ARE CROOKS.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AnyViewer app and why is it dangerous when installed from 07 2150 9290?

AnyViewer is legitimate remote access software used for technical support, but when installed following instructions from 07 2150 9290, it gives scammers complete control over your phone including access to banking apps, messages, photos, and credentials. The contributor reporting 0721509290 emphasised that this installation is the scammer's primary goal. Once installed, they can access everything on your device without your knowledge.

Why does the caller from 07 2150 9290 ask me to search 'my ip country'?

The caller uses this search to manufacture false evidence of a security breach. When you search 'my ip country' on your phone, it returns a real IP address (often from a major tech company like Google with address 66.249.x.x). The caller from 07 2150 9290 then falsely claims this IP location represents an overseas attacker, creating urgency and fear to pressure you into installing AnyViewer before you question the claim.

Is it real PayPal security calling me from 07 2150 9290?

No. The contributor reported that callers from 07 2150 9290 impersonate PayPal's security section but are actually scammers. Real PayPal security teams do not call you asking to install remote access apps or claiming someone has hijacked your phone based on an IP lookup. If you're concerned about your PayPal account, hang up and contact PayPal directly using the number on your statement or their official website, not any number provided during the call from 0721509290.

Can I trust the caller from 07 2150 9290 if they transfer me to the ACCC?

No. The contributor noted that when questioned, callers from 07 2150 9290 immediately offer to transfer you to the ACCC, and this transfer happens instantly. This is a social engineering tactic - the scammers control the entire call and can play a recording or connected line that sounds official. The ACCC would never verify a scam caller's identity during an active call. Always hang up and contact authorities independently using official numbers.

What should I do if I already installed AnyViewer after a call from 07 2150 9290?

Immediately uninstall the AnyViewer app from your phone. Contact your bank and PayPal directly (using numbers from your statements, not from the scammer) to report potential unauthorised access and monitor your accounts for fraud. Change your passwords from a secure device. Consider reporting the incident to ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au and to your phone provider to help block 0721509290 from further calls.

Why is this scam so convincing when it comes from 07 2150 9290?

The caller from 07 2150 9290 uses multiple manipulation tactics together: a legitimate Queensland local number to appear genuine, a plausible PayPal security narrative, a technical-sounding IP address search, and instant 'ACCC verification'. The contributor described the callers as 'very persistent and very convincing'. The combination of social engineering, false urgency, and fake technical evidence is designed to overcome normal scepticism before you realise it's a scam.
