The Scam Details
According to a user report dated 29 January 2024, the caller reportedly possessed an English accent and conveyed a message claiming there had been a fraudulent transaction occurring on the user’s bank account. Notably, the claimed transactions did not exist, and an unrecognised device was allegedly connected to their banking app. All these assertions instilled unnecessary anxiety in the receiver of the call.
Interestingly, this number bears a resemblance to a legitimate contact number associated with Commonwealth Bank (CommBank) but includes a different extension. This form of impersonation is a typical tactic employed by scammers to instill a sense of credibility, making their claims more convincing. Always exercise caution when receiving such communication.

I received a call from a man with an English accent who claimed it was a scam related to fraudulent transactions on my account. However, I checked, and there were no such transactions. He also mentioned that another device was registered for an app, which also does not exist. Interestingly, he was calling from the same number as Commonwealth Bank’s international number, but with a different extension.
They keep calling me by the same wrong name, from different phone numbers, so it was easy to work out. People should consider giving them an alias once, that way you can screen them out more easily every time they address you with your alias.
