I am an Amaysim customer, which operates on the Optus network, and I noticed that I was billed for a text message sent to the number 0488 863 468. I can’t help but wonder if this is related to the recent Optus data breach.
I was inexplicably charged for an SMS sent to the number 0488 863 468. I want to clarify that I have not sent any messages to this number, which leads me to believe that I might be a victim of phantom SMS charges.
I just noticed a charge for an SMS sent to this number, but I never sent any SMS. After contacting Optus, they reversed the charge for me. While on the call with Optus, I tried calling the scam number back on speaker phone, but it went to a disconnected line, confirming it's a scam.
Another crappy scammer claiming to be Google to reverify your device. What a load of crap!!!!
I got the same problem here, I have a mobile broadband service with Vodafone, so it does not cover calls or text. And every now and then, I will have an extra charge of $0.30. At the beginning I did not put too much thoughts into it. After a few times seeing the charges, I got concerned and contacted Vodafone, got some credit back, but they do not know how it happened.
This seems to be a number associated with Google, I think. I found my phone was trying to send messages to an undisclosed location/number leaving no record of such activity behind other than a message from my provider saying that I didn't have enough credit to send the message. Later I began getting messages from +61488863468 saying that Google needs to verify the phone# of my device, giving me a link to a Google/android help page: [link] - for more info read [link].
I saw a charge on my mobile phone bill for sending an SMS to 0488863468 (61488863468) but there's no record on my phone of ever sending an SMS to that number. Dodgy as hell.
Same here. Seems dodgy as hell. Had 3 transaction failed alerts. Trying to send some code to that number. I didn't even have the phone I hand at time. Been happening every few days for a while now. Must be a hacker up to something IMO.
I saw on my usage history (from the service provider) that I sent an SMS to this number. But I am 100% positive that I did not send any SMS as I was playing game on my phone (using my home internet) during that period.
