Understanding the Threat Behind 0488 811 640
The number 0488 811 640 / 0488811640 has raised significant concern among users who received unsolicited messages regarding business insurance. The typical message states, "This is a friendly reminder that your upcoming Business Insurance policy with [Company Name] will expire in [Days]. If you still wish to continue with your policy, please call us on [Number]." Alarmingly, many recipients do not hold any business insurance policies, leading to widespread suspicions of a scam.
Why is 0488 811 640 / 0488811640 Considered a Scam?
Analysis of multiple user reports confirms that 0488 811 640 / 0488811640 is an attempt at phishing, with the aim to collect personal information under the guise of a legitimate insurance reminder. This type of scam is becoming increasingly common, particularly as businesses continue to digitise their communication strategies.
- Impersonal Messaging: The lack of specificity in these messages, notably the absence of a clear company name or actual expiry date, suggests that this is an automated message rather than a tailored reminder.
- Targeting Personal Information: Scammers often use official language to confuse recipients, hoping that their fear of losing protection will prompt responses or callbacks to unauthorised numbers.
- Unverified Details: Many users have reported receiving messages to which they’ve shared no related context. For example, undefined periods for policy expiry only add to customer confusion and the fraudulent nature of this communication.
How to Deal with Calls and Messages from 0488 811 640

Got the same insurance renewal text - scam.
Yep also the same txt message.
"This is a friendly reminder that your upcoming Business Insurance policy with will expire in days. If you still wish to continue with your policy please call us on .".
They had my first name correct, but the message isn't very helpful, doesn't specify which company I have this supposed business insurance policy with. So something's gone wrong with their automated SMS software - there's an extra space where the info is meant to be.
But yeh, pretty sure it's an attempted scam.
More than likely a scam.

Interestingly, none of my insurance policies are due for renewal.
