Bloke, I've had three annoying calls from this number just in the last hour! And they're all from the same shady series starting with 0485 838... Can someone make it stop?!
This number's flagged as suspected spam. I wasn't going to take a chance and picked up, but I'm glad I let it go!
Got a call from these guys about 10 minutes ago.
Indian male who is calling about my "power bill". He doesn't know who I'm with. He didn't address me by name.
He works for all the companies (AGL / Origin / etc *had quite a list*). Basically he earns a churn fee [converting you]. I had to ask him if this is the case and the churn fee he would receive. He basically said that it varies depending on the supplier but around $150.
I believe he says he was in footsgrey Victoria (can't remember, although did record the conversation)
I asked for his business name and he said "Quick switch". He then changed it to click to compare as I was googling "Quick switch".
I asked him for his phone number and he said to call back on the number on my screen and to ask for him. The "extensions" have different numbers (He's probably using VOIP software and depending on his logon, it assigns that number)
I'm not 100% sure this is a scam (wasn't super obvious like most scams), although it does sound questionable and there is no way I'd sign up through him. Ps I used to be a scam baiter (even have videos of very obvious scams) so I can usually spot them a mile away.
Ps Searching his number, it is registered through Pivotel Satellite Pty Limited which supplies satellite / data / voip (data) phone services in Australia, but of course he could be anywhere using it.
