ANZ Impersonation Reports for 0483 980 176
The number 0483 980 176 (also written as 0483980176) presents a complex picture. Of 19 community reports, 8 contributors have confirmed legitimate ANZ fraud alerts, while 7 reports describe impersonation scams using ANZ branding. The remaining reports flag suspicious or uncertain activity. The presence of confirmed legitimate ANZ communications on this number means you cannot simply assume any call or SMS from 0483980176 is fraudulent - but equally, scammers are actively impersonating ANZ using this number.
The key distinction: ANZ's genuine fraud alerts typically ask you to verify purchase attempts via their official app or a callback number they provide. Scammers using 0483 980 176 tend to create false urgency, request personal information directly over the phone or SMS, and use pressure tactics. Multiple contributors report scammers claiming to have their card details and threatening immediate card blocks unless they comply.

What Our Users Reviewed
Sent a dodgy text claiming to be from my bank after fraudulent charges hit my account, rang the real bank to verify
Actually was the bank, just comes across as sketchy even though it's real
Phone's filter caught it, no voicemail
Looked like a scam text about dodgy card activity but it was genuine, rang the bank through the app to check and blocked an unauthorised transaction
Got a text that matched what others said, checked with ANZ and confirmed it's real
Found it suspicious, mention of subscription I can't find trace of
Called about data being leaked, got my name right but rest was dodgy, claimed to have my details
Real deal, checked with their app support and they sorted it out
I can confirm the intital and follow up sms message saying it was important I respond yes or no to whether I tried to make a purchase are legitimate messages from ANZ. I was concerned about a possible scam so I contacted ANZ via their app and once I confirmed I had not attempted to make a purchase and no-one would have had access to my card, they confirmed they had blocked my card and would dispatch a replacement card, as someone had attempted to make a purchase online using my card number. ANZ provided via their chat on their app a contact number for their Fraud & Scams First Responders of 1800 960 086 and said they will send out a fraud pack as well as dispatching a replacement card.
ANZ text, checked ANZ app and called them back, it was legit

Call from ANZ, genuine
But ANZ DOES send text like this.. How do you know it's a scam.
I've received the exact scam supposedly from ANZ. Now out $350 of pocket v.

WRITE A REVIEWFrequently Asked Questions
Is 0483 980 176 actually ANZ calling me?
Not always. While 8 contributors confirmed legitimate ANZ fraud alerts from 0483 980 176, scammers are actively impersonating ANZ on this same number. The safest approach: hang up and call ANZ directly on the number on your card or through your app to verify. Do not rely on the number that called you. This two-step verification applies whether 0483980176 calls or texts.
What should I do if 0483 980 176 mentions my card details?
Even if the caller has your name or last four card digits, do not assume they are legitimate. Scammers obtain this data from breaches. Hang up immediately and contact ANZ via your app or the official number on your card. Legitimate ANZ alerts can always be verified this way. Do not provide additional information to the caller from 0483 980 176.
I received an SMS from 0483 980 176 about a purchase attempt. Is this real?
Possibly. Several contributors received genuine ANZ fraud alerts via SMS from 0483980176 about fraudulent purchase attempts. Check your ANZ app directly - do not click links in the SMS. If the alert appears in your app's secure messaging, it is legitimate. If nothing shows in your app, it is likely a scam. Call ANZ on the number on your card to confirm before replying to any message.
What's the difference between a real ANZ alert and a scam from this number?
Legitimate ANZ alerts from 0483 980 176 typically: ask yes/no questions about purchase attempts, do not ask for passwords or PINs, appear in your ANZ app, and provide an official ANZ contact number. Scams tend to: create immediate urgency, ask you to respond with personal details, demand action now, and use threatening language. When in doubt, verify via the ANZ app or by calling ANZ independently - do not call any number the caller provides.
I already replied to a message from 0483 980 176 with personal info. What should I do?
Contact ANZ immediately through your app or the official number on your card. If you gave card details or passwords, ask ANZ to monitor your account for fraud and consider changing your passwords. Contact your bank's fraud team (ANZ Fraud and Scams First Responders: 1800 960 086, as mentioned by contributors). Report the incident to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au. Block 0483980176 on your phone.
Why do scammers use this number if ANZ also uses it?
Scammers exploit the fact that ANZ does use this number for legitimate fraud alerts, making their impersonation more convincing. When you see 0483 980 176 calling, your first instinct may be to answer because it could be a genuine security alert. This is exactly why scammers choose numbers associated with real bank activity. Always verify independently rather than trusting the caller ID. Reverseau contributors have reported both legitimate and fraudulent calls from 0483980176, so vigilance is essential.
