  • Suspicious

Beware of the number 0482 162 762, reported as suspicious by users. This call purports to be from a charitable organisation asking for donations. Learn how to handle such calls effectively.

Understanding the Suspicion Surrounding 0482 162 762

Recently, users have been reporting calls from the number 0482 162 762. The most notable feedback categorises this number as suspicious, primarily due to a call made to an individual that claimed to be representing the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The caller requested a small donation of $5 to support koalas amid concerns regarding wildlife welfare.

Details of the Caller

The review dated 27 May 2021 indicated that the individual was initially thoughtful about the matter, wondering if this was genuinely a transparent charity effort. With a commendable desire to contribute, they inquired about verifying the legitimacy of the call by requesting a callback at a later time. However, no further communication from the caller was received thereafter.

Why Is It Suspicious?

  • No Verified Response: The unfulfilled promise of a call back raises a red flag. Legitimate organisations like WWF generally provide ways for donors to safely verify their legitimacy before making contributions.
  • Request for Credit Card Details: The caller had prior possession of expired credit card details, which is a sign this could be a sophisticated scam trying to harvest sensitive financial information.
  • Pressure to Donate: While many known charities do request donations, a proactive and high-pressure appeal over the phone by unexpected numbers should always trigger cautious behaviour.

Steps to Handle the Call

If you receive a call from 0482 162 762 or a similar number, consider the following steps:

  • Do Not Share Personal Information: Never provide your credit card or any personal details over the phone unless you are certain of the caller's identity.
  • Research the Caller: Use a reverse phone lookup tool in Australia, like Reverseau, to check who called and validate if they are linked to an established organisation.
  • Report Suspicious Calls: In Australia, you can also report suspected scam calls to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

In conclusion, while many legitimate charitable organisations reach out for donations, remaining vigilant and verifying questionable calls like 0482 162 762 can help protect yourself from potential scams. Stay informed with Reverseau and engage with tools that allow you to uncover the truth behind unfamiliar phone encounters.

Got a call saying they were from WWF and want a donation of $5 to help the koalas and whatnot.

Had my credit card details but was expired and I replied that it’s my old card and I have a new one and if they have a website so I can review about the problem with the wildlife and said if they could call at 4:30pm. Received no call. Not sure but yeah :/.
