Nature of the Scam
Multiple user reviews indicate a recurring theme: the caller, purporting to be associated with Telstra, attempts to lure individuals with promises of a 40% discount on mobile plans for being a 'valued customer'. In reality, this is a ploy to obtain sensitive personal information, including your date of birth and email address, which they may leverage for identity theft or other fraudulent activities.
Why is this Number Classified as a Scam?
- Claim of Authority: The caller explicitly identifies themselves as being from Telstra, often greeting individuals by name and providing relevant personal details that can be alarming, leading victims to believe they are legitimate.
- Pushiness: Reviews uniformly describe the callers as overly aggressive in trying to secure sensitive information, a clear red flag for scams.
- No Valid Contact: If the accused scammers are unable or unwilling to provide their Telstra contact number when questioned, this suggests a lack of credibility.
- Inconsistent Information: Users have reported confusing conversations and unverified offers that bear no reflection of actual Telstra deals, which further implicates the calls as fraudulent.

Scam call - purporting to be Telstra. Knew name and wanted birth date to give discount. Not with Telstra - blocked!
This caller pretends to be from Telstra, claiming to offer a 40% discount while asking for identity verification. It's important to note that Telstra's call center is now based in Australia and not India, which raises suspicions about the legitimacy of the call. This is likely a scam.
The caller identified herself as “Mara from Telstra,” but there was a lot of background noise typical of call centers. I do not have a Telstra account, which led me to believe this was a scam, so I ended the call. I attempted to call the number back eight times from a different work phone, but the call never connected and ultimately showed a busy signal.
I didn't answer the call. After researching the number, I found out that some users have labeled it as a possible Telstra scam, so I added it to my blocked list for safety.
Scammer! Pushy trying to get d.o. B, when I refused and said I believe this is a scam she vehemently denied and said she could verify that she was from Telstra via a text, that text never came through, hung up, they then tried to call back and I didn’t answer.
Called twice in quick succession. Picked up the second time because of this only to have someone greet me using my name and telling me it is Telstra billing. Told them they had the wrong number and hung up…as I’m not with Telstra!
The caller claimed to be from Telstra, but I suspect it was a scam attempt.
Someone purporting to be from Telstra called and offered me a 40 percent discount on my mobile phone for being a good customer. She had my name, email address and phone number and asked my date of birth. She texted me a code and was very pushy when I said I was uneasy and wanted to check if it was a scam.
Spoofed telemarketer. Engaged when trying to ring back. Picked up by phone software as spam.
