Understanding the Calls from 0480 039 253

The one-time intrigue of receiving a call from 0480 039 253 / 0480039253 has turned into a well-documented suspicion among users in Australia. Reports indicate that this number is associated with unsolicited telemarketing calls, particularly focusing on superannuation. Recipients of these calls have expressed concerns about the legitimacy of the inquiries and the practices of the callers.

What Happened?

In various interactions reported to us, callers, often described as having Asian accents, introduced themselves under the pretext of confirming superannuation-related details. While some recipients mentioned that the callers appeared to know personal information such as their name, it quickly became clear that the questioning remained generic and circumstantial. The nature of these interactions raised red flags, as callers failed to provide credible proof of their affiliation with any established superannuation fund.

User Feedback & Analysis

Users have categorised their experiences as suspicious, particularly due to the standard inquiries about age brackets, employment status, and location without any forthcoming identification of the company. Reviewers felt uncomfortable with the lack of transparency and questioned the intent behind such questions.

  • Suspicious Intent: Callers did not clarify their actual intentions or company affiliation, leading to a general feeling of mistrust.
  • Generic Queries: The broad range of questions posed did not indicate not direct solicitude for sensitive information, which again seems deliberate—a strategy often employed in spam or scam contexts.

How to Handle Calls from 0480 039 253

If you receive a call from this number, approach it with caution:

  • Do Not Share Personal Information: Regardless of how authentic the caller may seem, avoid disclosing personal, financial, or sensitive data.
  • Challenge the Caller: Ask for clear identification, including the name of their company and their credentials. Genuine representatives will have no issue providing this information.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: Consider reporting any such calls to your local consumer protection agency.

Received call from Asian accented woman calling in regards to me not being charged for super annuation. I was keen to see how this went as she knew my name, and agreed to 'confirm who I was'. She asked generic questions -my age bracket (with a bracket of 20 years), whether I was employed, and whether I'd been working for the last 10 years, and whether I was still living in NSW.

When I asked what company she was from she said it was to make sure I wasn't being charged super fees (which didn't answer my question) and that a customer service rep would call me back in the next few days.

Very very fishy interaction. She didn't ask any direct questions that would divulge any sensitive information about myself though.
