Fake Sydney Tools Phishing Reports for 0468 195 145

One contributor has reported receiving a suspicious SMS from 0468 195 145 (also written as 0468195145) claiming to be from Sydney Tools shop. The message contained a link, and after the contributor clicked it and replied with 'stop', they experienced what they believe was unauthorised phone access. The contributor reported that photos and screenshots were being forwarded without their consent, suggesting potential device compromise.

This report highlights a significant risk associated with 0468195145 - the combination of impersonation (posing as a legitimate business) and a malicious link designed to compromise device security. The contributor's experience suggests this may not be a standard phishing attempt but rather a more sophisticated attack targeting device access and data theft.

What the SMS from 0468 195 145 Contained

The message from 0468 195 145 impersonated Sydney Tools, a legitimate Australian retailer, to establish credibility. The contributor reported that clicking the link in the SMS triggered unauthorized access to their device, with photos and screenshots being forwarded without consent.

Notably, when the contributor was in a non-service area and attempted to send 'stop' as a reply to 0468195145, a notification appeared stating the message had failed to send to Sydney Tools. This suggests the scammer may have spoofed a legitimate business number or used a service designed to mimic official channels, making it difficult to identify the message as fraudulent at first glance.

Device Compromise and Data Theft Risks

The contributor's experience with 0468 195 145 escalated beyond a typical phishing attempt. After interacting with the link and replying, the contributor discovered that personal data - specifically photos and screenshots - were being transmitted without authorisation. The scammer continued to send follow-up SMS messages to 0468195145, advising the contributor not to click links or reply, which only reinforced the severity of the compromise.

The contributor has taken steps to report the incident to the cyber crime unit and plans to obtain phone records from their telco to backtrack the breach. This level of device access suggests potential installation of malware or spyware, rather than simple credential theft.
