Symbio Networks Impersonation Reports for 08 7371 2701

One contributor has reported receiving a call from 08 7371 2701 (also written as 0873712701) claiming to represent Symbio Pty Ltd. The report raises significant concerns about caller identity, as the contributor also received a separate call from (02) 3816 1769 making identical claims about being Symbio. This pattern suggests either aggressive number spoofing across different Australian states or a coordinated scam operation using the Symbio brand as a front.

The contributor's suspicion about cross-state number spoofing is a critical indicator. The registered allocation shows 0873712701 is a South Australian local service assigned to Symbio Networks Pty Ltd, yet the caller also used a New South Wales number to make similar claims. This mismatch between genuine service provider infrastructure and the caller behaviour strongly suggests fraudulent activity.

What the Caller from 08 7371 2701 Claimed

According to the contributor's report, the caller purported to be from Symbio Pty Ltd. The contributor did not detail the specific claims or purpose of the call, but the coordinated use of multiple phone numbers (08 7371 2701 and 02 3816 1769) to make identical false claims points to a deliberate impersonation scheme. Scammers often use legitimate company names to establish false credibility before pivoting to financial requests, account verification, or technical support demands.

The Spoofing Pattern - Multiple Numbers, Same False Identity

The most damaging aspect of this report is the evidence of number spoofing across state lines. The contributor received calls from both 08 7371 2701 (South Australian) and (02) 3816 1769 (New South Wales), both claiming to represent the same company. This is a classic impersonation tactic used by scammers to:

  • Evade call-blocking by rotating phone numbers
  • Create an illusion of scale or multiple departments
  • Exploit the legitimacy of a real company name (Symbio) to bypass initial caller scepticism
  • Suggest the caller has access to genuine telco infrastructure

The fact that both calls made identical false claims about representing Symbio strongly suggests deliberate fraud rather than a single misdialled or misdirected call.

Also got a call at another time from (02) 3816 1769 which also purports to be Symbio Pty Ltd. Clearly someone is either spoofing their numbers to appear to be from two States or they are a front for Scammers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would a scammer impersonate Symbio Networks?

Scammers use legitimate company names like Symbio Networks to exploit trust. When 08 7371 2701 or related numbers claim to be Symbio, the victim is more likely to believe the caller works for a real, known ISP rather than a stranger. This credibility is then used to extract personal information, banking details, or convince you to enable remote access. The impersonation tactic is particularly effective because Symbio is a genuine Australian internet service provider, making the false claim initially plausible.

Is 0873712701 a real Symbio Networks number?

08 7371 2701 is registered as a South Australian local service allocated to Symbio Networks Pty Ltd. However, the fact that this number was used to make false claims (combined with the identical claims from a NSW number, 02 3816 1769) strongly suggests the number is being used fraudulently. The number may be spoofed, compromised, or misused by scammers. Do not trust the number's legitimate allocation as proof the caller is genuine - always verify by contacting Symbio directly through official channels.

What is number spoofing and how does it relate to 08 7371 2701?

Number spoofing is when a caller makes their call appear to come from a different phone number than the one they're actually using. In this case, the contributor received calls from both 08 7371 2701 and (02) 3816 1769, both claiming to be Symbio. This suggests either the numbers are spoofed to hide the real caller's location, or the same scam operation is deliberately using multiple numbers to appear larger or avoid call-blocking. Either way, receiving similar false claims from two different numbers is a red flag for impersonation fraud.

What should I do if I already gave information to a caller from 0873712701?

If you provided personal information, banking details, or passwords to someone claiming to be from Symbio via a call from 08 7371 2701, take immediate action: Contact your bank and relevant service providers (NBN, Symbio, etc.) to flag the security breach. Change passwords for any accounts mentioned in the call. Monitor your accounts for fraudulent activity. Report the call to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au), ACMA (acma.gov.au), and Symbio directly. If financial loss occurred, file a report with your local police and report the fraud to your bank's fraud team.

How can I verify a call claiming to be from Symbio?

Never use contact details provided by the caller. Instead: Find Symbio's official phone number on your service agreement or bill. Go directly to the official Symbio website (not via a link the caller provided) and use the contact number listed there. Call that number and ask whether they initiated contact with you. Legitimate companies like Symbio will have consistent, verifiable contact methods - if 08 7371 2701 is calling with claims that don't match Symbio's official channels, it's impersonation.

Should I answer calls from 08 7371 2701 in future?

No. If you receive a call from 08 7371 2701, let it go to voicemail. Do not answer or engage with the caller. If the call is legitimate, the caller will leave a voicemail with specific details you can verify independently. In the meantime, block 0873712701 in your phone's settings to prevent future calls from this number. If you do accidentally answer and the caller claims to be Symbio or another service provider, hang up immediately and verify the claim through official channels before taking any action.
