They called pretending to be from Westpac about some PayPal dodge – classic scam behaviour! Don't be fooled by those tactics!

After I entered a code they sent from the number 0448 222 001, which was 604215, my entire account was hacked, and now I cannot access it. Shortly after, I received another message with a separate code warning me not to share it. The message also included a number, 1300 655 505, which I suspect is connected to sophisticated hackers.

I received a message from this number but didn’t recognize it. Since I hadn't requested a verification code, I looked up the number online. The search results indicated that it belonged to Westpac. As a Westpac customer, I found it suspicious since I never asked for this code. I believe the Westpac number may have been spoofed and consider this a scam or phishing attempt.

I have received multiple text messages from this number, which is claimed to be from Westpac. Some texts are legitimate, but many appear to be scams. The latest messages ask me to confirm payments with a code that I never requested for accounts I don't recognize. It's important to be cautious and thoroughly read such messages.

I received this call three times, along with SMS verification codes that were delayed and caused me to request new ones. I understand the importance of not sharing SMS codes, and fortunately, none of the details included a CVC number.

I don't understand how this number is considered legitimate. I am NOT even a customer of Westpac!

I received a verification code from Westpac from this number, but I have never used Westpac in my life, which makes me suspicious of this call.

I used a different phone number to log into my Westpac account, and I was prompted to enter a code for login. If you receive any calls claiming to be from Westpac that don't match their official number, do not engage.

This number appears to be associated with scammers. I contacted Westpac, and they confirmed that they did not send any alerts from this number.

This number is not a scam! Initially, I received a text message stating that my Westpac credit card had been temporarily blocked, which raised my suspicion due to a link included that pointed to the number 132032. However, I later received a confirmation call from my branch, informing me that my card had been handed in after I dropped it at a cafe. It's important to call 132032 directly rather than clicking on any associated links to avoid potential scams.

I strongly believe this is a scam. The caller claimed to be from Westpac and provided a 1300 number to call back, which is indeed associated with Westpac. However, instead of calling that number, I went to Westpac's official website and used their provided 13 communication line. I found that no transactions had occurred on my app when I received this message, but when I called Westpac, they confirmed my account was locked due to incorrect password attempts being made.

L

This is definitely a scammer—I received two messages claiming that my Westpac loan had been approved. Both messages asked me to contact them to accept the contract. This seems highly suspicious and I strongly advise against responding.

I received a message that claimed to be from Westpac, but I have never been a customer of theirs. This message was unexpected and seems to be part of a scam. I believe it is 100% a scam!

T

I received an SMS verification code intended for someone trying to change my mobile number linked to a Westpac account. I contacted Westpac directly, and they confirmed it was a scam that would be reported to their fraud investigation team.

I received an unexpected text message instructing me to enter the SMS code 098230 to access my "digital card." If anyone else receives a message like this, they are advised to call 1300 655 505 for clarification as it seems suspicious.

There are individuals contacting me who are pretending to be PayPal tech staff. This seems to be a scam.

According to Reefhunter, this number is associated with Westpac's legitimate SMS Protect service, as mentioned on their website. However, it is possible that scammers are spoofing this number. The danger is that if the number is blocked by a telecommunications provider because of the scammers, legitimate Westpac SMS codes won't be received, causing further issues.

Just got a message from this number when I logged into bank app asking for verification and provided a code which I entered. It then proceeded to ask date of birth medicare details etc etc by which time it was obviously suspicious.

M

I entered my verification code into the app, and it worked, but I only receive this code while I’m trying to do a transfer through my Westpac account. This raises my suspicion.

This is definitely a scam! I do not have a Westpac account and I believe this report is false. I specifically want to warn others that regardless of what people might claim, this is indeed a scam designed to trick you into providing personal information.
