0419 822 689 has been reported as a suspicious number claiming to represent Telstra. This article provides insights into the nature of the calls and guidance on how to handle them safely.

The number 0419 822 689 / 0419822689 has raised several red flags among users, who have reported their experiences as suspicious. This particular number claims to be associated with Telstra, Australia's telecommunications giant. However, based on user feedback, it appears that this number is part of a concerning trend of calls that can be classified as suspicious.

One user reported a call received on 25 November 2020, during which they were contacted by a caller who claimed there was an issue with their Telstra modem. The user became suspicious when the caller, described as having an Indian accent, insisted they needed to be at a computer to troubleshoot the issue. This demand is a common tactic employed by scammers aiming to extract personal information or gain access to the victim's computer under false pretenses.

It is crucial to note that legitimate representatives from Telstra will typically provide guidance without demanding the customer to be at a particular location or performing specific tasks. The abrupt ending of the call, marked by offensive language when challenged about the process, further signals the likelihood of this being a scam attempt rather than legitimate customer support.

With an uptick in such suspicious calls, it's vital for consumers to exercise caution. Here are some recommended actions if you encounter 0419 822 689 / 0419822689 or similar numbers:

  • Do Not Engage: If you receive a call from this number, do not provide any personal information. Hang up if the call seems suspicious.
  • Verify Independently: Instead of trusting the caller, contact Telstra directly using a verified customer service number to check for any actual issues related to your account.
  • Report the Call: Keep a record of the call and report it to local authorities or a consumer protection agency. Reporting numbers can help raise awareness and potentially prevent others from falling victim to scams.

Ultimately, while 0419 822 689 / 0419822689 might initially seem like a legitimate contact, the user reports clearly illustrate a pattern of behaviour that identifies it as a suspicious number. By employing caution and awareness, you can better protect yourself from potential telephone scams.

Scam

I received a phone call from 0419822689 today. An Indian lady was on the phone saying I have an issue with my Telstra modem. I asked her for the procedures and she refused to tell me them as she requested that I'd be in front of a computer. I told her that I have a Ph.D. in Computer science and can understand the procedures if she tells me. All of a sudden, she shouted, " Are you a technician"? I said I don't need to be a technician to understand the procedures. Next, she said, 'f*k you' and hung up.

Can Telstra stop outsourcing their customer service to India? It's bloody confusing at times when an Indian representative calls and you can't tell the real ones from the scammers!
