Identifying 0417 871 838: A Recap of Reports

The phone number 0417 871 838 has been flagged multiple times as a scam caller, particularly noted for impersonating representatives from Telstra. Users have voiced their experiences, highlighting the aggressive tactics employed by the callers, which often include the use of personal information that is suspiciously accurate.

Unpacking the Scam

In one specific report from 18 March 2025, a user recounted a conversation with a female caller who claimed to be from Telstra. What’s alarming is that this caller had access to the user’s name and email address, albeit an alternate one not linked to their actual Telstra account. This indicates potential data breaches or information gathering tactics often employed by scammers.

Scam Methods

The caller attempted to manipulate the user into disclosing a Microsoft verification code. Such strategies are indicative of phishing attempts, where scammers are trying to gain access to your secure accounts by tricking you into revealing sensitive information. When the user resisted and identified the call as a scam, the responder resorted to rude language, a tactic sometimes used to intimidate victims into compliance.

How to Deal with Calls from 0417 871 838

  • Do not engage: If you receive a call from this number, it is advisable not to engage with the caller or provide any personal details.
  • Protect your information: Be wary of any unsolicited requests for personal information or security codes, particularly if the caller has information that seems suspicious.
  • Report the scam: Report scams to your local authorities or to the relevant Australian consumer watchdog so they can help address this growing issue.

Scam

Scam caller, rude Indian woman. Pretending to be from.

Telstra - called me by name (my fake name I use for signing up to things on the internet), cited my email address (not the one linked to my Telstra account) and obviously had my phone number. I then received a Microsoft code via text that they asked me to provide them. I laughed and said no, nice try. She hung up so I called back and said the call cut out. She asked again for the code, I called her a stupid scammer, laughed, and she told me to go f*** myself. Classic. Be smart, don’t get scammed by these Indians.
