TPG Impersonation and Phishing Reports for 0416 906 330

Contributors have reported mixed activity from 0416 906 330 (also written as 0416906330). One report confirms legitimate calls from TPG about internet and landline services, while another describes a suspicious SMS phishing attempt using a fake refund claim. What Callers and Messages from 0416906330 Claim

The legitimate report about 0416 906 330 involved calls about existing TPG internet and landline services, which the contributor verified directly with TPG support. However, the scam SMS from this number took a different approach: it claimed the recipient was entitled to a refund credit, provided a fake reference number (702307), and attempted to extract banking information. This phishing tactic exploits the fact that the contributor had recently received a legitimate credit from TPG, making the scam message appear more credible at first glance.

How to Distinguish Legitimate TPG Calls from 0416 906 330 Phishing

The contrast in these reports highlights an important distinction. Legitimate TPG contact about services will come through verified channels and will not request sensitive banking details via SMS or unsolicited voicemail. The phishing SMS from 0416906330 explicitly asked for bank details through an anonymous text message, something TPG would never do. If you receive calls from 0416 906 330, verify the caller's legitimacy by hanging up and calling TPG directly on their official customer service number found on your bill or their website.

I received a message from this number this morning, thought it may have been a scam. I contacted TPG to see if it was and I can safely say that it is NOT a scam. The message was automated, but was official from TPG. If you receive a message from this number and you are not a customer, it's possible that a real TPG customer simply entered their phone number and now you are receiving messages intended for them. I just wanted to put this out there because it stressed me out this morning, and wanted to let people know my findings. If you are sceptical of a number being fake, you should call the company the person claims to represent and confirm it with them. Don't just blindly write a comment online that's going to confuse and mislead people.

So bloody ignorant. You answer and there is nobody at the other end. One day I would like to conduct my own pay back on these people.
