Identifying the Scam Behind 0415 525 221

The phone number 0415 525 221 / 0415525221 has emerged as a notorious source of scam messages targeting users across Australia. Reports indicate that this number is being used to send deceptive SMS notifications related to unpaid toll payments. In essence, scammers are employing the guise of legitimate toll operators to fleece unsuspecting individuals.

How the Scam Works

Victims have reported receiving messages that suggest there is an issue with their toll payment — for example, they receive texts stating that their E-tag was undetected or that payment has failed. A typical message would be something along the lines of: "Your trip could not have been billed to your account because your E-tag was undetected. To avoid receiving a penalty notice, pay now.” Accompanied by this alarming text is usually a link that claims to rectify the issue.

This link leads to a fraudulent website designed to mimic legitimate toll service sites, such as those operated by Linkt. The goal of these scams is to trick users into providing personal and payment information, which can then be used for identity theft or other fraudulent activities.

Scam - message (minus link) was this:

"1122-LlNKT: Your trip could not have been billed to your account because your E-tag was undetected. To avoid receiving a penalty notice, pay now. "

Clicking the link takes you to an official looking site with Linkt logos - do not click, do not enter details.

Exact same thing happened to me with this number. Sent text saying "Your trip could not have been billed to your account because your E-tag was undetected." and sent a link with it. Accidentally clicked the link, they use Linkt logos to look official but are scamming you. Report and block!
