Understanding the Risks of 0407 876 543

The phone number 0407 876 543 / 0407876543 has drawn significant attention over the years due to its association with scams related to American Express. Users have reported that they receive multiple messages claiming fraudulent activities linked to their cards. However, when they attempt to call back, they often find that the number is disconnected. This combination of unsolicited messages and a disconnection anomaly suggests that the number is likely being used in a phishing scam.

Why is 0407 876 543 / 0407876543 Considered a Scam?

Based on numerous user reports, the major themes around this number can be grouped as follows:

  • Consistent Phishing Attempts: Many users highlighted receiving texts claiming their American Express card had a transaction that exceeded the limit. Notably, several recipients mentioned that they do not own an AMEX card, raising immediate suspicion of their authenticity.
  • Confusion Between Legitimate and Scam Messages: While some people believed the messages might be legitimate due to the frequency and content, others confirmed with AMEX that 0407 876 543 / 0407876543 was not associated with their official customer service.
  • Disconnection Upon Call Back: A common thread in multiple reviews is the finding that calling back results in a message stating the number has been disconnected. This inconsistency further escalates concerns about the legitimacy of the claims made in the texts.

What Should You Do If You Receive a Message from This Number?

If you receive messages from 0407 876 543 / 0407876543, here’s how to handle it:

  • Do Not Engage: Refrain from calling back or replying to texts, as this may give scammers more opportunities to deceive you.
  • Verify Independently: If you receive a message regarding your financial accounts, contact your financial institution using official channels, such as the number on the back of your card.
  • Secure Your Information: Be cautious about sharing any personal information. Legitimate companies will not ask for sensitive data via unsecured channels like text messages.
  • Report the Number: Consider reporting the number to relevant authorities or your telecommunications provider to help protect others from potential scams.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while there may be some conflicting reports regarding the legitimacy of 0407 876 543 / 0407876543, the overwhelming consensus among users is that it is associated with deceptive phishing attempts aimed at obtaining personal and financial information. These clowns pretended to be from AMEX and were fishing for my PIN! Total scammers! Reported 'em to AMEX with the 1300 numbers. If anyone says it's legit, they're in on it!

I received an SMS alert from AMEX about a fraudulent transaction on my account. Shortly after, I got a call from a different number purporting to be AMEX, confirming the unauthorized transactions. They resolved the issue and sent me a replacement card. However, I'm still feeling uncertain because I received the call shortly after waking up. I called the number on the back of my card to verify, and customer service confirmed it was legitimate.

After contacting AMEX on their official 1300 number, I confirmed that the call I received was indeed from AMEX. It appears the call was generated by their system to address potential concerns. It's reassuring to know that they are proactive in looking out for their customers' security.

I received a text message from this number warning me about potential fraud on my American Express card. I was able to block two fraudulent transactions as a result. I decided to cancel my card, and a new one is being sent to me. I verified that this communication was legitimate through follow-up emails from American Express.

This is a legitimate AMEX number, I received a text message yesterday (17 June 2024) advising possible fraudulent activity on my AMEX card (ending in XXXX) and when I called the number it was the AMEX Security team who confirmed of attempted fraud on my card, they cancelled and will reissue a new card.

Have blocked this number. AMEX have never sent me a reminder via text and I’ve not requested reminders to be sent via text. This is a scam. Block the number.

M

I received a message claiming that a charge of AUD 131.60 had been made on my supplementary AMEX card, with instructions to text STOP to unsubscribe or HELP for information. I did not authorize any such charge, so I consider this to be a scam and have reported it as spam.

B

Absolutely a scam! I confirmed with American Express — this is not their official number.

While trying to call my American Express, I noticed this number listed in my contacts labeled as AMEX. I did not save it there myself, so I’m quite puzzled about how it ended up in my contacts without my knowledge.

M

I received an SMS that warned me about an incorrect PIN attempt with my American Express (AMEX) card. The message instructed me to check my account but did not include any links or ask for my personal information. Later, I received a legitimate email from AMEX confirming the same issue. I believe this communication is legitimate.

D
Durrant

I believe this number is legitimate. I received a text message about five minutes after I unsuccessfully attempted to use my American Express card for the first time in a year. The message invited me to log in and check my account details, but it did not include any suspicious links or content that seemed questionable.

K

I received approximately 40 text messages from this number within a span of about five hours. It's clear that no legitimate financial institution would send that many messages in such a short time. I contacted American Express using the number on the back of my card, and they confirmed that this number is not associated with them. This is definitely a scam, so I advise you to delete any texts from this number without opening them.

This number, 0407 876 543, is not fraudulent. I contacted American Express directly using the number on the back of my card after receiving a fraud alert message from them. It was a legitimate warning from Amex. If you're ever in doubt, please verify with Amex directly.

100% SKAM.

Do not fool for this, the fact that the American Express link was ‘how2pay’ is wrong, plus all their websites are not ‘Amex’.

I have rang the real AMEX and they say I do not have a card.

Please do not be fooled :).

2017.June : same story " transaction on old AMEX card was been refused". Called the number back (on landline) = disconnected.

I think this number is a hoax. Just received message that a transaction had been attempted with an old card. AMEX usually email if issue or call direct if any issues which is why I continue to use AMEX. I will be blocking this number.

I get a message from AMEX every Sunday providing my current balance. It is a genuine message and gives the correct information.

I just read it and delete it.

Today I had a missed call from 0407 876 543. I called back and got the same message others seem to be getting.... Disconnected number.

I also received the usual weekly message from AMEX. I looked at the number in the message for the first time, and its from the same number.

It seems to me that is an AMEX number, but don't know what the connection is between a missed call and it being disconnected.

The number just keeps appearing on my phone as a message but there is no text. When I call it it is disconnected. I hope that when I called it that somehow it can access my contacts in my phone. Can they?? I have also had.

Messages saying my AMEX is over the limit because a transaction was attempted on the card.

I have had 2 TEXT from this number on the same night. First that my American Express card had a attempted transaction exceeding the limit and to call the number on the back of the card Second that my David Jones card is over the limit and to visit the David Jones web site. When I phoned AM the message was to call back business hours and I do not have a DJ card. When I phoned the number I received a message that it is disconnected. It sounds like a scam to me but I can not see what they are getting out of it.
