The caller was a lady with a NZ accent. She said she was from a company called Information Connect about a tax-related opportunity for home owners.

Definitely a scam number, I had a call from someone saying they were from 'Information Assist' asking if I was a home owner and suggesting that they had tax rebates available for me.

On further questioning they told me there was no website, no phone number I could call them back on and hung up on me when I suggested it was a scam.

Got a missed call from this number yesterday - knew to ignore it thanks to previous posts here, so thanks!

Answered the phone today thinking it was a tradie I was waiting on & was told it's a government rebate scheme / tax refund - their job is to see if I qualify. I asked what their company name is & was told 'Information Assist'. I went along with it so I could find out more & report it to ATO (I figure they already know my name & phone number).

First they asked if I was under 55 & a home owner. (If you want them to go away, say no.).

Then they asked the following questions of you & partner:

- age range.

- working status (full time/ part time / etc).

- income after tax.

- if you have 5 years more of work (ie . no plans to retire soon).

- house value (or average value of houses in area).

- mortgage amt.

- post code.

I gave them totally false information. The lady said her supervisor would check whether I qualify & I'd get a call back in a couple of days.

I await with baited breath!

IF there is some kind of tax refund/ retirement assistance provided by the government for certain sectors of the population, I'm sure either your tax agent or the government/ATO would let eligible people know. This is not the way they do it - total scam IMHO.

Hung up when I said I worked for Vic police.

Had a call from this number today. A lady with a NZ accent claiming to be from "information assist" and something to do with the ATO and confirming my eligibility for government incentives and rebates. She started asking very personal questions about my marital status, mortgage, home value etc. I told her I wasn't comfortable to give such information and that I would confirm my eligibility for rebates etc by visiting the ATO website. She seemed annoyed and said I would be unlikely to find anything as there are more than 200 incentives blah blah blah. Seems very scammish to me.

Yep, I think this is a scammer; as I too have received a call and was unable to answer it, and when I returned the call, went through to a message bank that was full. Any way I have saved the number under the name "scammer" so next time I get a call, it will prompt me to ask them for their full name, banking details, call back number and other personal details (please do not try this, ignoring the call is best option), before I will be ready to discuss any other matters that they wish to raise.

By the way, I found that I had a missed call from this same number when I went back and searched my call log and found the name "scammer" several times in the past few weeks.

Having the name logged in my phone as "scammer", you can chose to ignore it, which is the best option.

I got a few missed calls so decided to answer. Same story as every one else here. How do they know my name, number and post code?

I have been getting repeated calls from this number. I answer it and no one responds. When I try to call it back it says that the number you are trying to reach is unavailable. Very suss!!! Definitely going to take this further and do more investigating!

I keep getting repeated calls from this no. - I don't respond.

When I try ringing the no. From another phone the answer is that it is either not available at this time or it is busy.

I have tried blocking this no on my phone but that doesn't work.

I have had two calls from this number this morning - ignored both of them and blocked their number. Have had the "Australian Rebate Service" contact me from a different mobile number also -- beware of them, it's a scam.

I have had numerous calls from this mobile to my mobile. One of them even left a voicemail saying "Bernie? Bernie?" as though they were tricking me into calling back. I called back from an alternative phone and it went to voice mail. Today I decided to answer it and stupidly gave some minimal information and now a "Senior" member of staff will be calling me back. It was about the "Australian Rebate Service". I will be firmly requesting no further calls and mentioning Do not Call register!

Called numerous times and left no voicemail. When I answered a well spoken lady asked for my age bracket to see if I was entitled for tax rebates etc.

As soon as I questioned where she had sourced my details and why no voicemail she immediately hung up.

They call me regularly - I've tried to call back but it goes directly to voice mail.

Called and said there was a REBATE I could claim of I met specific criteria such as owning or mortgage on home, working and employed. If you are unemployed is the best response because it immediately indicates you have NO MONEY for them to scam. BE AWARE that it is a woman with an eloquent English/Aussie accent who handles the call so no Nigerian or foreign accent in play to make it easily obvious. They may even pretend to have the same name as you as a way of getting you to drop your guard. Above all give no PERSONAL INFORMATION and report!

Called the number and it went straight to voicemail. It was a missed call, they did not leave a message. Definitely a one of those spam calls.
