02 6140 3486: Scam Call from 'ATO' - Tax Fraud Threat

Got a voicemail today sounding very similar to this: [link] same number. Sadly it got deleted off my answering machine before I could record it to another device to submit to scamwatch.

I called him back gave him all the information. I was so lucky not to go to jail.

Just received a recorded message from Jason, with same message about a claim against me from ATO, thankfully I checked the number online right away- and saw that this scammer has been at it for a while!! Did not call back!

Received a phone call from this number. There was a pre-recorded message telling me I was being charged for tax evasion and there was a warrant out for my arrest and to call him back on this number before the police arrived. He said he was Jason O'Connor from the ATO. Of course I didn't call him back, it was more than obvious from his poor use of English and not once mentioning my name that this guy was not from the ATO but a low life scammer. About half an hour later I received the exact same call. He can call me all he likes but the only people I'll be calling is Telstra to see if they can track down this a-hole.

Idiot just left the same message on the answering machine, knew it was a scam the minute he opened his dirty dawg lying mouth. Hard to believe the authorities can't do anything about it... Surely they have details about where the # is located? Feel sorry for the folk that get sucked in.

Phoned on the 2nd of October 2015. Jason O'Connor from the tax office from this number. He said a local policeman would come to arrest me for tax evasion. Had to call back. I didn't.

Received two calls from these scammers! Don't believe a word they say, the authorities will catch them eventually!

Received a voicemail from "Jason O'Conner" today threatening me with a law suit and jail term saying he was from the "Australian Taxation Department" as a few comments above mention the same scenario... Im hoping the authorities catch up to him!!

Got a call from Kevin Jones/Jason O'Connor today from this number. He left me a voicemail with his number and in that message threatened that the police would come around with a warrant for my arrest for tax evasion. I called him back and was surprised that he actually answered! These guys are about as low as you can get - I called Scamwatch, and apart from inorming the public there isn't much they can do, so, I'm spreading the word! Don't give these ^@%$#!@^#%$ the opportunity to scare you, and definitely don't give them any money! In fact the only thing you should give them is an earful (I know I did!).

I received 2 calls from this number this afternoon, they left a message saying that a lawsuit had been filed against us by the ATO. Thought it was a scam straightaway but confirmed it by checking on Google.

Hope nobody falls for this!

Roger the rabbit phoned here too. So I hopped on here and rang them back approx 50 times. In the end they said please stop ringing. I just wanted to know what the weather was like in Nigeria.

Scammers!!! But hey if everybody calls back for a laugh, put the hoax back on them.

My parents are OS and I was horrified when I checked their phone messages to find a message from Roger Bennet, claiming he was from the ATO in Canberra, to tell them that a law suit had been filed against them for financial tax fraud and tax evasion asking for a return call from their solicitor. My first thought was it was the wrong number because this is not at all like my parents. I tried to call the 02 number which did not connect. I then realised 02 is NSW not the ACT so I typed the name and number into Google coming up with this site. So glad I didn't ruin their holiday by telling them. Some people hey?

Had a message left on my home phone yesterday. Returned the call from work this morning when I was told I was going to be arrested for Tax evasion and owed $85k. Luckily one of the quick thinking girls here googled the number to find it was a hoax. I do hope they get caught and get the jail time they threatened me with.

Do not call this scammer back! He got me too, we are also a small business and I've felt sick all morning! Don't let this worry you at all. So so thankful to have read all these comments :) My mind is at ease.

Roger Bennett called from 0261403486. As a newly single mother who has not had much to do with Centerlink and is still unsure about things this really freaked me out.

We also were called by "Roger Bennett from the ATO Canberra' again claiming a law suit had been filed against us for fraud. Called back but it didn't even connect to anything. ITS A SCAM.

Got a call/answering machine msh on June 23rd in regional WA. Am a Small business owner and it scared the crap out of me. Glad I found these posts to put my mind at ease!!

Yes I just got home to a message on my answering machine to say that Rodger Bennett from the ATO was calling and I needed to call him back or have our solicitor call him on 02 61403486 as the ATO had filed a Lawsuit against us for Tax evasion and Tax Fraud. Yes gave me a fright as we have a small business but then I googled his name and here I am. I will report it tomorrow but it is a relief to find out it is a scam.

Yep, Roger Bennett from "office of Public Prosecutions in Canberra" called today about "a legal lawsuit" against me (didn't mention my name) by the ATO and left this number for me or my "attorney" to call back. This same scam has been reported in other countries - apparently it comes from Jamaica. Not sure how they scam you but obviously not legitimate.

Similar situation here but name was Peter Sampson. I answered the call and assumed it was a scam, when I tried to get more information from him he was vague and talked about lawsuits or sending someone to my home. Best to just put the phone down on them.

Bastard is fraud. Scared my wife. Point of getting accountant or solicitor to call is to get tax file number.!!!! From them to verify it's you. Very slick please beware.

We had the same message on our phone today... Roger Bennett asking us or our 'attorney' to be called back on 02 6140 3486, we (no name mentioned) were being charged/investigated for fraud with the ATO. So sick of these idiots.... Unfortunately they would get someone caught up in their deception. Hope they are caught soon and dealt with appropriately.

Same thing here in regional Mid North Roger Bennett ATO with accusations of Fraud & Tax evasion. This caller is a Cyber criminal & should be dealt with as harshly as possible. These calls could easily cause deaths to certain people. Any information at all please share it with other Agencies. I would personally like to meet this caller.

Received a call from 02 6140 3486 Roger Bennett today. It was on the answering machine of my 84 year old mother. Thankfully she did not listen to the message. I did and he stated exactly what has been mentioned in previous posts. Tax evasion and fraud and to ring back but did not ask for anyone by name. I did not bother to call back as it is clearly a scam. Hope no others fall for this scam.

We're a small retail business in Sydney South - same deal as everybody else, just got the call today. Roger Bennett, American accent (sounded accent trained). Never directed the call at anybody in particular - tried calling the number back to have some fun but nothing - it didn't even ring.

Hi I received a call yesterday from a Rodger Bennett saying he was from the ato and for me or my attorney to call this number back 0261403486 cause we are facing tax fraud or evasion charges.

But he never once said who the call was directed at. The ato would at least send a letter. Watch this it's a scam not sure why though.

I also got this call tonight. It went to voicemail, as I listened to the message you could tell straight away that this is a scam. The ATD, really??? Don't think so buddy!!!

Received the same message today on my answering machine at 1pm. Telling me I was facing court action re Tax Fraud and for myself or my lawyer to respond to the phone number. Jolted me but knew that there was something amiss...... Tried the number obviously but nothing ATO do not communicate like this anyway.

We also received a call, message left on answering machine from Roger Bennett. Same as all the above, very English/Australian name did not quite match the accent. Definite scam - hope someone is looking into this one......... I would warn people against confirming any personal details, name address etc for fear of identity fraud.

Received a call from roger Bennett on behalf of the ato. Tax fraud is what being charged for. Yeah right, tried to call but rings out! We owe no money but still freaked me out.

I just had Roger Bennett call me. I purposely let it go to answerphone as I didn't know the number 02 6140 3486. I immediately thought SCAM because I know we owe nothing to the ATO. He used all the same threats as the other posters have reported. I actually wish I'd have picked the phone up and played him for a while.

Came home to this on the answering machine. Was like what the!!! There is no way there has been TAX fraud. Such a scam will be reporting this one to the ATD. And probably calls to put on Facebook as well.

I received a phone call this morning from a Roger Bennett claiming to be from the ATO and something about CDPP and a tax evasion case. I instantly became suspicious as the message was not very clear and the voice was obviously disguised a little. He gave the number of 02 6140 3486 and if he was from the ATO, I would have received a letter NOT a phone call advising this. He also did not state the name of the person that the case was against.

Yes, I got this call today too. Roger Bennett was the name used too. He said I owed some $6000 but was very vague about wherehe was from. Very officious which is not my experience of the ATO. Yes he mentioned police coming around and arresting me and seizing my assets and that I had returned their letters. I never got any. I called the ATO and reported and I just hope the Federal Police investigate.

We too had the same call and a message left on our answering machine from a Mr Bennett claiming that we were having court proceedings placed against us for Tax evasion... I knew instantly because Im a stay at home mum, and my hubby works for a government department.
