I just had the same call today from a so called Brian Maxwell, from the ATO stating tax fraud and asking to call this number urgently. Do these fraudsters think people are stupid? It was a prerecorded message. Beware and report them.

Just had a phone call from Brian Maxwell the scammer claimimg some crap about ATO... DO NOT ENGAGE WITH THIS PERSON, HANG UP. Or... Tell him a whole bunch of absolute rubbish to keep him occupied so as he doesn't scam someone unsuspecting person.
This man is a scam. Make sure to report him to the ATO and police.
Has a strange accent saying he is calling from the ATO.
Similarly received call from Brian Maxwell today at 11.04am today re: Tax Fraud/Avoidance and to return the call and not disregard. Anticipate this male will be intercepted.
The exact same thing just happened to me, he knew my home address, heavy Indian accent. Claming I had not payed my tax and he was issuing a warrant.
Received message from Brian Maxwell. ATO??? At 9.11am today re Tax Fraud/Avoidance and to return the call and not disregard. I have reported the details to ATO and Police.
Yes received the call from Brian Maxwell. Gave me the same run down tax fraud, will be arrested, you have two choices, fightvthe charge or pay the dept of $5631.45, go to the nearest Commonwealth Bank, do not tell friends or family. Brian or whoever he is, said must get to the bank in five minutes, I told him it was his lucky day I am at the Commenwealth Bank right now and if he gave me the details I would walk right next door and pass on his details to the Police.
This is 100% a scam and fraud most likely coming from India. A guy with a pretend American accent rambled on about ATO, tax fraud, arrest, warrant... If you get a call from this number, throw it right back at the scammer and pretend you are a federal agent and he has now been tracked down. He he ...
Same here. Just got a call from Brian Maxwell saying I had been audited by the ATO and was being charged for Violation of the Tax Code, Theft by deception, Wilful misconduct and a host of other charges.
Said I had to have my lawyer ring within 40 minutes of the phone or the police would arrest me within 40 minutes and I would be taken to the County Court. When I asked him why the County court and not Federal, given these were supposedly Federal charges, he immediately changed the venue to the "Commonwealth Court" - no such thing. Very pronounced Indian accent and quite aggressive when challenged re tax codes, Audit reports trails etc (which I made up) and then terminated the conversation.
Just got the same phone all and the line is busy, I told him it was fraud but he just rambled so not sure if it was just a voice recording. He stated I had been caught involved in tax fraud and was being investigated. When I asked why I had to ring back the call ended.
Same thing happened with me today, this "Brian Maxwell', told me to go to the ATM to withdraw cash money.Beware.Don't give any personal info to these scammers. ATO informed.
BRIAN MAXWELL called saying he was from the AGO phone number I s from Batesman Bay NSW. Scam do not call back people.
Same as everyone else. Who are these cocks and why do they think we are so stupid?
Same as previous persons claimed to be from.
ATO and I was going to be served a warrant I will call ATO and report.
Just received a call from this number with a voice message saying that its Brian Maxwell from the ATO. He said that I was being investigated for tax fraud and tax avoidance and I had to call him back immediately or else there will be legal actions taken against me.
I reported this to the ATO and they confirmed that its a scam.
Same experience as everyone else - voicemail was left which sounded dodgy so I Googled the number and found these comments. Tried to report to ATO but kept on hold for too long.
Same, dodgy as hell, reported to ATO and Police.
Same call as everyone else. Very dodgy. I had the message left as a voicemail. Called back but no answer. Noticed he didn't sau my name at all.
Just got the same call with a recorded message from "Brian Maxwell" supposedly from the ATO.
I googled the phone number that was quoted and found this, so it looks like I'm not the only one.
I just received a call from this number but when it started to say I was being investigated for fraud by the ATO and it was going to the high court I hung up the phone.
Same as all of the above, "Brian Maxwell from the ATO" just called me from (02) 4407 0028 stating he "received a legal complaint under my name for tax fraud and tax avoidance" and that I had to call him back immediately "before he takes the matter to court and issues a warrant". Dodgy Bastard!
Yes the samething happened to me Brian Maxwell contacted me 3 weeks ago with the same story, when I told him he would need to speak to my accountant he hung up. However I just recieved another call from him today, definately a scam and do not give out any of your personal information.
Had the same experience today - brian maxwell, claiming to be from ato and saidi was being investigated for tax fraud but wheni called the number be hung up on me twice and said "wrong number". Reported to ato.
The same thing just happened to me with a Brian Maxwell claiming to be from the ATO stating that I owed the ATO outstanding charges. At first I was shocked that I was being charged with fraud. I was transferred to accounts and asked to go to Bank immediately and withdraw money while they stayed on the phone. This is when I knew it was a scam. I have never experienced anything like this and found it frightening.
A Brian Maxwell (thats what he said his name was, with a very foreign accent) called on the work phone number, claimed to be from the ATO stating that I owed the ATO outstanding charges. If I didn't call back immediately my name would be listed to be taken through the courts. I was informed not to ignore the call as it was important. Person would not answer any questions, sort of sounded like a recording. Did not address me by name. Sounded dodgy to me, so I did a look up and low and behold there are others that have register calls as well.
Dodgy - claim to be tax office but have no information about themselves- scam.
Caller claimed to be from Australian Taxation office but that could not be true as I have not had dealings with the Tax Office in years and have no reason to as I not in paid employment. It was in a very threatening tone so be wary.
