Avoid calling this number, as it is associated with scammers fraudulently posing as PayPal representatives. They falsely state that your account was used for a Bitcoin transaction in the UK. A friend of mine was scammed and provided her email credentials, leading to compromise of her email account. It's always safest to reach out to PayPal directly through their app or official website.

I received a call just this evening Sunday at 7:30 pm.

I found this to be a bit odd, but answered. I was greeted by a male with thick African or Indian accent. He said he was from a fraud team at PayPal and my account had just been flagged by a few charges.

He asked me to confirm my name, phone number and address.

I said to him, I thought you were from the fraud department and you had picked up charges on my account, so you should have that information.

He then asked for my email address and password, and to also go get all my bank cards so he could put a hold on these alleged fraud charges.

I said I don’t believe there to be any unauthorised charges and he got really agro and started yelling at me saying that If he doesn’t get my details; he can’t block these charges on my PayPal account.

He then went on to say that there was another charge going through my PayPal account for $349.99 and to stop this; he needed my bank details now (and yelled NOW)

I said you are full of it as I don’t have PayPal and then did an ear piercing scream through the phone, hung up, and blocked the number.

I have noticed quite a few people seem to be getting calls from this number from so called PayPal fraud team and urge everyone to be careful and share their experiences through Reverse AU (which is an awesome service)

Saturday night call (7:55 PM) from a male who was extremely difficult to understand. Gave his name as “Dan” from PayPal.

Apparently my account had 3 or “possibly 4” fraudulent charges- all at $399.99 each - on my PayPal account and as he was on the phone, he said there looks to be another happening as we spoke.

He started to say I possibly had given my email.

& password to someone, along with my bank card details and “suggested” I give him my email address and password, along with my card numbers - including expiry, the exact way the name is presented on my card, and the 2 digit number on the back of my card.

I started to laugh as I’ve never used PayPal in my life and said if he thought I was going to give him my details, he had called the wrong person.

He then got aggressive and said “I am trying to help you. You have to give me the details”

I told him where to go and hung up.

TO ANYONE WHO GETS A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER, PLEASE BLOCK.

I could hear others in the background also asking people for their 16 digit numbers from their cards.

I also received a call from this number from a male with a very difficult accent, so found what he was saying very hard to understand.

He told me I had a suspected fraudulent charge of $349.99 on my PayPal account.

I find these calls rather amusing, as like others who’s revives I have read, I’ve not ever used PayPal.

Caller claimed to be from PayPal fraudulent department (male sounded either indian or African)

Advised me that I had possible fraud charges against my account and he gave me a few dollar amounts.

He addressed me by a different name and claimed I had 2 x accounts (one with Westpac and the other Commonwealth- I have not banked with either bank since I was a kid in the mid 1980’s) so I played along and said I was shocked. He then continued to say he could see further charges happening on his system as we were talking and they were happening overseas.

He wanted me to confirm my card numbers with him, give him my email address and password and also my PayPal details.

I’ve never used PayPal in my life either.

I called him out on this and he then started yelling at me saying “I’m the one that’s helping you, I need your details”

I then whistled extremely loud into the phone and he said “sorry, can you please repeat that” so I whistled even louder then hung up.

Thank you for this warning. I received an email 'PayPal Security Warning' notifying me of a unusual activity detected on my PayPal account and notify me that my account has been locked due to this and then urging me to review a document and or contact PayPal on this number if this activity was unauthorized. This email didn't seem right and after googling this number, I found this site warning that this number is a SCAM!

It also helps if you don't have a PayPal account. LOL.

I received an email today regarding a fraudulent payment for Bitcoin of $350 USD to my PayPal account which is funny because I do not have a PayPal account. It also told me to call this number: 1800953483 which is not the official PayPal contact number. Please do not call 1800953483. They are impersonating PayPal.
