Ok so I was about to stream a movies when a page popped up saing I got a trogen or somethjng and to call that toll free number to fix 1800678433. Me not knowing if it was legit called and an indian soundig guy answered and I told him exactlt what happened and he didn't really seem like he cared so I hung up and he called straight back off private number and told me to press the start button and letyer R at the same time. A window popped up and he told me to type in a few letters and numbers then he was controlling my whole computer from where he was. He told me all this stuff about how my computer needed cleaning and such and showed me all these warnings I had and stuff. Then said that they will clean it but I have to pay $230 for a 6 month cover or $300 for a year I said 6 months as I didn't really trust it all and he asked if I had paypall and got me to sign in and try pay the money asap but I said I had no money till next week and he said he was fonna check with his ttechnicians to see if I could pay next week and he said bad news they need $100 straight up and so j said well sorry I have no money ill call back next week. He then sounded angry wich made me think im being scammed but also through all that he got my email adress l, probs watched me type in my paypall acxount password and keycard numbers and also computer usernames and password he asked for and then asked what internet provider I use and he couldn't say my name dylan at all then started callong me daniel lol so I think im gonna change all my accounts now after reading about these kinds of scams. This number is used by Indian scammers in an attempt to steal money off you. Its one of the most convoluted scams I've seen.
They use several malware viruses to get your card details and name, mobile number, bank number and then call you and say "Hello my name is (your name) and my card number is... And bank number ..." To try to scare the sh*t out of you and make you think they are stealing your identity. As they are in India if they try to use the card, your card provider (visa, mastercard etc.) would immediately detect it as fraud as soon as the funky transaction happens from overseas and not allow the transaction and deactivate your card number from being able to be used. And they can't do anything with the Bank Number without your access code (But I have heard that they try to pretend to be from your bank to get your security number to access your account.) Another malware virus then makes a semi-believable looking pop-up, with microsoft and antivirus software and telling you that your computer has malware (interestingly enough it lists the actual malware that's infecting your computer) all over it. The pop-up cannot be closed and has the 1800 number on it telling you to call the number to get rid of the malware.
And then after all that the scam actually happens and they claim to be from Microsoft and request money from you to fix your computer.
I can only imagine how terrifying this would all be for the non-tech savvy. Just always remember to scan for malware and not to disable the automated scanning of your antivirus software because it slows your computer down.
