    Received text message from St George to call back this number regarding correspondence they had sent to me regarding my novated lease account. Rang St George's published phone number, they confirmed number was definitely legitimate. Have called number and organised a refund owing to me.

    EMail and SMS from 'St George' today offering me a refund. Have never had an account with St George, so know it is a complete scam. The people who answered were Australian. A sophisticated scam. Avoid.

    Agree totally. And when you call them back they ask you for your bank details so they can give you a "refund". Why not just ask you for your address and send you a cheque. Wouldn't that be more confidential and private? Banks seem to have no idea sometimes.

    Missed call with this as the callback number (including reference). Called the number listed on St George website and they confirmed it was from their remediation team. Always recommend calling back the number listed on the website to confirm. They can always transfer you from there.

    Call from Private Number asking for my husband, I told them that he was working and they told me he had to call them back on an urgent matter - 1800 097 970. When I asked why they said that it was a private business matter. When I asked what company was calling him - they said that they could not say for it was private. That is when I laughed and hung up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
