1800016 376 is a nasty call centre based in India that pretends to be working as or for Apple support team. They are fake, fake, fake. Those scums are installing malwares and viruses from popups or with bundles software as Adobe Flash. More important, Porn sites are 98% are find to be their favourite way of passing their viruses. Your internet browser suddenly freeze and your all computer is frozen. Best way is to shut your computer down (by pressing power button for 20 seconds or to make sure unplug Your computer). Fear and stress will take over with messages saying that your computer has had a virus attack. Restart with a clean browser cache and a run of a antivirus if you have one. Talk to someone if you are not reassured or still in distress. This free phone call number is targeted to Australian 's audience. Note that nothing has changed in your computer system but check if some extensions had been added to your browser.

Hi yes I got a pop up on my Mac blocking use of my browser and it said your computer has been infected by a virus and to call APPLE on 1800 016 376 immediately for help.

The pop up prevented me from closing any windows.

I rang the number and they said they were APPLE STORE and how could they help me?

I described the message and they said they needed to get REMOTE ACCESS to my computer to help resolve the problem!

It was a call centre with a reasonably professional sounding person who had a suitably formal almost disinterested tone.

I asked how they could verify they were Apple? He could not reply and just repeated that if I wanted help he could help me.

I asked if I gave them the serial number of my computer could they tell me what name they have against that number (my information) so that I could verify they were Apple... And they said no they could not for "privacy reasons". I told them they are scammers and hung up.

Even though I couldn't close the browser window, I was able to right click on the Browser Icon to force quit my browser and was able to get back to normal computer use.

I feel it's important to track these people and prosecute but also to get agreement from Australian Telephone Service providers not to provide 1800 or 1300 numbers without having an Australian citizen vouch for the number so they can be tracked.

This is very much an APPLE SCAM.

Although scammers like this pretend to be anyone.. From the Federal Police to Parcel Post pick ups.

They either want remote access to your computer or money to fix your problem or send your parcel etc etc etc.

BE WARE.

Don't PROVIDE ANYTHING.
