The phone number 13 40 83 has raised significant concerns among users, leading to a split in opinions about whether it is a scam or a legitimate call. If you've received a call from this number, you might be wondering who is on the other end and how to navigate the situation.
From the user reports, we gather two primary perspectives: one user reported an encounter suggesting fraud while another confirmed it as a legitimate number belonging to NAB's call centre. This dichotomy emphasizes the importance of context when dealing with unexpected calls.
Scam Allegations
The first review, dated 09/08/2015, raises red flags. The caller reportedly introduced themselves as “Steve Davies” and inquired about personal information, asserting that the recipient had called them. This attempt bears the hallmarks of an impersonation scam, a common tactic where fraudsters feign as representatives of legitimate firms to extract sensitive information.
In this scenario, the recommended course of action is clear: never provide personal information over the phone unless you have verified the caller's identity. If ever in doubt, hang up and independently call the official customer service number of your bank or service provider. This precaution mitigates the risk of falling victim to scams.
Legitimacy Confirmation
Conversely, the other review, from 09/06/2016, asserts that 13 40 83 is indeed NAB's call centre. NAB, or the National Australia Bank, is one of the country’s major banks, and calls from them may pertain to informational outreach or account-related updates. If a call comes through this number, and you suspect it to be legitimate, ensure you confirm the purpose of the call without divulging sensitive information right away.
To summarise, while there are valid concerns regarding potential scams linked to 13 40 83, especially considering the tactic of impersonation described in certain reports, there is also a significant affirmation of its legitimacy coming from NAB. Therefore, due diligence is needed as a precaution in every instance.
