According to the ATO website, if you receive a suspicious phone call, hang up immediately and do not provide any personal information. If you're unsure of the authenticity of the call, contact the ATO directly at 1800 008 540 to confirm. Date of the incident: 22 July 2022.
It's a scam. I received a text and an email telling me to go to that number and enter the code. I called the ATO scam report number on their website and they said no text or email was ever sent to my account.

I’ve received a phone call from 01300 650 286 (notice the extra 0 at the front). It was a robotic male voice claiming to be from the ATO. Just letting everyone know, you’ll never receive a call from ATO under any circumstance.
