    Just westpac. Opened a new bank account which was the reason for their call.

    It is Westpac bank, not a scam and they left a voicemail asking to call back.

    This is Westpac - it's an outbound team who called me to welcome me on my new home loan. This number is legitimate. If you tell them you are not comfortable to take the call, they will just advise you to call back on any Westpac number you like and you can confirm.

    Asked for my full date of birth (gave them the wrong date - wrong year which she flagged but I insisted it was the correct date) Asked for my address (gave then the wrong address) Couldn’t verify my identity and said I needed to go in into a branch to continue with my application. I haven’t used westpac in over a year - phishing for identifiable info. Idiots.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
