I received a call that started with an automated message claiming to be from Visa and Mastercard. Since I work for Mastercard, I found it suspicious. The message stated there was a charge of $1,300 on my account and prompted me to press 1 to dispute it. When I connected to a representative at what seemed to be an Indian call center, they hung up when I asked for details about which card had the charge.
The caller stated they were from the Commonwealth Bank in Brisbane but quickly hung up. There was a lot of noise in the background, which made the call seem suspicious.
Similar to other reports, the caller asked me if I had made a $1500 transaction, and then abruptly hung up when I didn’t respond further.
