The caller, who identified himself as "Bob," has been actively reaching out and attempting to gather personal information under the pretext of subscription updates. This number falls squarely within the scam category due to the nature of the calls reported by various individuals.

What Type of Scam is Involved?

Based on user experiences, the calls from this number seemingly originate from an overseas call centre, with operators adopting common names like "Bob." These scams typically involve unsolicited calls where the scammer attempts to convince the recipient that they need to update or renew their antivirus software subscription.

Why is 0493 989 407 / 0493989407 a Scam?

Firstly, legitimate companies such as Norton do not make unsolicited calls asking clients for updates or personal information. • Report the Call: It is vital to report the number to the relevant authorities or organisations that handle such complaints in Australia.
  • Use Reverseau: If you're unsure about a number, use Reverse Phone Lookup Australia to verify the identity of the caller before taking further actions.

A guy from a call centre has been calling for a couple of weeks, tells me his name is "Bob" and that I need to update my subscription to Norton antivirus software. I normally hang up right away because I hate scammers, but for some reason last week I said, "Hey Bob, I've had a really shit day. How about you?" Then he laughed and said, "Same here. My day has been shit too." He sounded Indian, so I said, "Your name isn't really Bob, is it?" secretly imagining I was talking to that really hot actor Dev Patel from the movie Lion, the one where Nicole Kidman has a really bad perm. "No, my name isn't Bob," he said, which I could barely hear, because he was surrounded by so many loud, angry voices at the call centre. And I know this is weird, but for some reason I asked him why he was having such a shit day. There was this long pause where he didn't say anything and we just stayed on the line listening to each other. Then he hung up and I haven't heard from him since.
