On here in response to their Gumtree ad. He jumped on my ad for a car after about an hour after posting it. Said he wanted to treat his son he was out of town etc. To cut a long story short he said the money had left his account and he wasted $650 Apple gift cards to get it released. Sent me his driving licence and asked for a copy of mine. For gods sake don't give out your licence. I am told the licence he showed me would be from the previous victim and he'd use mine on future victims. Horrible. Now to get a new licence dammit.

This bloke just kept ringing, wanted to play nice calling me ‘mate’ whilst asking for my BSB like he’s some sort of pal! He sent me his driver’s licence and Medicare info, but like hell I’m buying it! Honestly, if a mate was in another country, they'd come to grab their stuff in person, not hit me up for my bank details.

This is SPAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be warned. The person /group behind play out a story of family or mother or wife. They dig deep on emotions and tell you they have checked out your profile on Gumtree and that you are legitimate enough so they will definitely buy FROM YOU! Sellers BEWARE!!!! They play out how they are going to help their family member. They want Bank Details, account and video of the item. Then they come back saying how wonderful they are organizing a courier. It is horrible when it happens to someone who is vulnerable and really just wants to sell something on Gumtree. Disgusting! Somehow Karma will play its part.

Received an email from Erwin at tibormokany43@gmail.com about some ads I had on Gumtree. Thought I'd better check this out here first to see if it's legit.

Received a dodgy text from gumtrp on 15th Sep 2025, asking me to email back at johncottns@gmail.com about my vehicle I listed on Gumtree. Sounds fishy to me!

Beware! This number's up to no good. They sent me dodgy texts pretending to be interested in my Gumtree ad. Don't fall for it - they're just trying to scam you!

Same again email from stevenjamesking184@gmail. Com is still circulating sending very strange emails.

Just screams dodgy.

Got an sms via Gumtree from this number asking about my ad and wanting me to email him only at martinadamlindsay@gmail. Com with the final price. Story was he's out of town/country wants to buy the item. I say payID first then come pick up. Yeah sure he says and asks for my bank details bsb acc No etc to payID. I Smell a rat and tell him he only needs my phone number to payID - which he already has. He Got upset I don't trust him, he's not here to scam me blah blah blah he only wants to make his wife happy and he can send me pics of his drivers licence and Medicare to prove he's legit... I said ok send it.. He did.. Name on licence is Adam Lindsay Martin and its a NSW ID. Where do I report it? He's a freaking piece of shit and needs to be put away. What to do...????

So, I put an ad on Gumtree, right? Then this bloke, Martin, texts me wanting to know if the item is still available. He’s all, 'email me with your final price.' I go ahead and reply, and straight away he’s asking for my address before even sortin’ payment! I told him it’s payID first, address second, and he turns all agro wanting my full bank details, like mate, you only need my phone num for that! What a classic scam!

After hours of going rounds with Telstra, I can confirm this number is legit and not a spoof. It’s frustrating that Telstra won't deal with their issues, especially considering the fines they’ve faced over the years!

Look, I had an ad up on Gumtree, and this number keeps popping up. I've received four responses, all with the same sketchy message asking for emails. Watch out for those emails from anth6oxx@gmail.com and others – they're fishy!

Watch out for this dodgy bloke named Michael on Gumtree! He wants you to email him, but I reckon he's just after your details. Total scammer!

Just got contact from this number, about an add on Gumtree asking for email only contact, second "person" asking for this in 30 mins. They send very similar responses about not being able to view the car but wanting bank details to pay for it.

This scammer's email is kellymic2024@gmail.com. They pulled a fast one, pretending to send a legit PayPal email while urging my folks to grab a $300 Apple or Visa card for a 'processing fee.' Hope they live a lonely life and get caught!

Same rigmarole happened to me! They were all 'email-only', directing me to that dodgy stevenjamesking184@gmail.com. Total scam!

Got an ad on Gumtree and received an instant SMS. Did a bit of digging here and turns out it's a scam! They’re sending out the same message to everyone; just a heads up, mate!

Listed something on Gumtree and straight away got a weird text asking to email this Kelly person with an offer. Total scam vibes, I ignored it and binned the message.

Selling my Border Collies on Gumtree and got a text saying to email "kellymicha80 @ gmail.com" with my price. Not a chance! Total scammers at play!
