When I calls from unidentified numbers I use the new record button on the iPhone screen which announces that the call is being recorded. This usually weeds out scammers as they hang up straight aaay. Then I block them.

I’m not 100% sure if this is legitimate or not. Call came up as “Vodafone AU” Busy background chatter. The female had thick indian accent and said I was eligible for a phone upgrade (I am with Vodafone but my plan is not due for renewal until August) She said “I see you currently have an iPhone 8” (That isn’t the case as I’m on a 14) Another thing I found dubious was that she asked for my name. I said “if you called me offering me an upgrade, you should at least know my name” She said “I do, but for security purposes, I need you to confirm” I fake named her and she then said “yes, thank you _______ “ It was hear I said “look, I’m not really interested” and then I ended the call.
