  • Impersonation of Legitimate Services: Many reports indicate that callers frequently claim to represent well-known organisations, such as the National Broadband Network or financial services like PayPal and credit card companies. They often mention issues regarding account security or requests for verification processes that turn out to be merely deceptive pranks.
  • Attempts to Access Personal Information: A prevalent approach is to gain control or access to the victim's home computer by claiming there are security issues. Phrases like ‘we need access to fix problems detected on your connection’ are commonplace, leaving individuals vulnerable if they comply.
  • Creating Urgency: Calls often involve manipulative tactics, whereby victims are pressured to act quickly—usually involving pressing buttons or providing information under the threat of immediate account problems, or unsolicited payments for services never actually rendered.

As of August 2023, this phone number remains active. I was under the impression that Telstra was effectively monitoring such complaints, yet it seems they are unable to take action against this known repeat offender.

I've been receiving calls from this number and also from 44335632 and 44335662 today, all traced back to the same address in Bendigo. The callers, who all had Indian accents, hung up immediately when I asked them about the weather in Kolkata.

I just got a call from this number I let it go to voicemail and it was a recording claiming it was Amazon and I would be billed $99 or my membership would be canceled and to press 1 to be directed to an operator. I don’t even have Amazon membership but called Amazon to be sure it wasn’t them and my account wasn’t being defrauded, they told me immediately it was a scam and to block the number.

The caller claimed to be from Telstra, offering a six-month discount for 'eligible' customers. They said I qualified because my bill is always paid on time. I thanked them and said I would contact my account manager directly. I later called Telstra, and they confirmed that no discounts are offered for 'prepaid' or 'direct debit' services, which made me suspect this could be a scam.

I answered a call from a person who asked if I had been processing $900 transactions to New Zealand using my credit card. They inquired whether I had my cards on hand. I found their questions intrusive and challenged them by stating that they should know what cards I possess if they are legitimate. The caller abruptly hung up after I expressed my concerns.

This is the same group of scammers as the number 0483 915 328, along with many other similar numbers. I maintain a list of these callers and call them back using a free Telstra payphone, consistently reaching a call center. Even though my number is on the Do Not Call register, I believe this is where they acquired my information. Frustratingly, they continue to contact me.
