    Rang on my 'blocked' worked number. Indian scammer claiming from a power company (didn't name it) then asked if I had my power with ACTEWAGL. I don't give out my work number for any private matters. I guess its that time of year for f*king scammers to ramp up. I told him to remove my number and I will report the number he rang on to the government. He hung up quick.

    Answered this call. They said they were from ACTEWAGL and they wanted to sign me up to a different electricity plan to get a cheaper rate. But they wouldn't be calling from a mobile phone. He had an overseas accent, maybe India (which doesn't automatically mean a scam, but it could be a possible red flag). He wanted me to get an old electricity bill. I asked him why, and didn't he already have my details. Asked him to ring back later. Seemed a bit off from the first second. Scam.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
