Beware of calls from 0483 161 748, as this number has been reported by users for sending scam texts pretending to be from banks. Learn how to handle these suspicious messages effectively.

In recent times, many Australian mobile users have reported receiving alarming text messages from the number 0483 161 748. This number has become associated with sophisticated phishing scams designed to trick unsuspecting recipients into revealing personal banking information.

The reviews indicate that the number sends texts purporting to be from major banking institutions such as Commonwealth Bank and ANZ, claiming that accounts have been suspended or locked due to suspicious activity. One typical message read, "Your ANZ account has been locked. Follow the prompts to unlock it". However, a crucial detail is that users reported never having had an account with the bank in question, raising red flags about the legitimacy of the communication.

These texts typically include a fraudulent link that redirects recipients to a phishing website deceptively designed to look like the real bank's online interface. Victims are led to believe they must follow the provided prompts to restore access, but in reality, it is a ruse to capture login details for nefarious purposes.

Given the nature and content of the messages received, it is safe to classify 0483 161 748 as a scam number, primarily involved in phishing attempts targeting bank customer information. With financial identity theft at an all-time high, it is crucial for users to remain vigilant.

Should you receive a text or call from this number or any similar ones, here are a few steps to consider:

  • Do not click links: If a message contains suspicious links, avoid clicking on them.
  • Contact your bank directly: If you are unsure about the legitimacy of a message, call your bank’s official helpline using a number you trust, rather than responding to the message.
  • Block the number: On most mobile devices, you have the option to block numbers that you believe are fraudulent.
  • Report the scam: Notify the Australian Cyber Security Centre or your local authorities about the scam attempts.

Staying informed and cautious is essential in today’s digital landscape. If you're in need of verifying unknown calls or messages, consider utilising services like Reverseau for a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia. Be proactive in protecting your personal information and stay safe.

Received Text Message that states NetBank has been suspended, you may be able to restore your access now follow the prompts at commbank-re.store or call 132221.

I do not have a CommBank account. The link is not a CommBank link, but the phone number is a CBA number (I assume to make it look legitimate).
