One contributor has reported receiving a suspicious text message from 0480 805 857 (also written as 0480805857). What the SMS Indicated
The contributor noted that the text from 0480 805 857 claimed a voicemail had been left, yet no incoming call was recorded. Should I call back 0480 805 857 if I receive this SMS?
No. Do not call back 0480805857. Callback requests are a common nuisance tactic to confirm your number is active and monitored. Calling back may lead to unexpected charges, further contact, or connection to a scam operation. Delete the message and block the number instead.
What does the 0480 805 857 message mean when it says voicemail was left?
The claim from 0480 805 857 is false. The contributor who reported it received the SMS without any prior phone call. This 'phantom voicemail' tactic is designed to trick you into calling back out of curiosity or concern. Ignore the claim and do not engage.
Is 0480805857 a legitimate customer service number?
Based on the community report, 0480 805 857 appears to be a nuisance mobile number, not a legitimate business line. The deceptive voicemail claim indicates suspicious behaviour. If you need to contact a real company, use the official phone number from their website or account statement, never the number from an unexpected SMS.
Can I block 0480 805 857 on my phone?
Yes. Most smartphones allow you to block numbers directly. On iPhone, open the message from 0480 805 857, tap the info icon, and select 'Block this Caller'. On Android, open the SMS, tap the menu, and choose 'Block number'. This prevents further messages and calls from 0480805857.
Should I report 0480 805 857 to ACMA?
Yes. Forward the SMS from 0480 805 857 to 0429 999 888 to report it as spam to ACMA. Include the message content and the number 0480805857. Also report it on Reverseau to alert other Australians and help build a community database of nuisance numbers.
Why did 0480 805 857 send me an SMS instead of calling?
SMS nuisance campaigns are often cheaper and harder to trace than voice calls. By sending the phantom voicemail message from 0480 805 857, the sender can test which numbers respond to callbacks without the overhead of call infrastructure. This suggests automated bulk messaging rather than personal contact.
