Flagged as a "spam" number by my phone so I didn't answer it. I've also had scam calls from similar numbers, all 0480 802 ***, in the last month or two.
The best thing to do is just let it ring out, definitely DO NOT answer and speak to them! There is *nothing* you can tell them that makes a difference, it's all automated. If you answer then your number is considered "live", as in "this guy will pick up, keep trying again". They also treat an "engaged" tone as an invitation to call back later, and unfortunately most call blocking apps cause the caller (the scammers) to get an engaged tone and they'll just keep trying. However, EVENTUALLY when a human finally reviews it, they'll see that your number never answers, then they slow down, and maybe one day stop.
Can we please have the statistics back? It's helpful to see if a lot of people have checked the number, as that's a sign that they're using bulk automated robocalls.
Marked by my phone as a known Spam number. Very similar to the last scam call number (from 0480 802 157, two days ago). I don't answer unknown number any more. It does make them slow right down, though they never totally stop. But it's much better than it used to be.
