Beware of 0480 413 195: A Notorious Linkt Scam
The phone number 0480 413 195 / 0480413195 has made its rounds recently, landing itself firmly on the list of reported scams. Users across Australia have increasingly shared their experiences regarding this number, categorising it unequivocally as a spam inexorably tied to scam activities concerning overdue Linkt bills.
What Is Happening?
Analysis of multiple reports reveals a concerning pattern. The number has been associated with unsolicited messages claiming that the recipient has an overdue bill related to Linkt, an electronic toll collection service in Australia. However, the messages are deceptive, with several users stating clearly that they have no outstanding payments or even a Linkt account.
Nature of the Scam
The core premise of this scam involves fraudulent SMS messages informing users about fictitious bills. The messages assert the urgency of the situation, prompting recipients to click on hyperlinks, which lead to dubious websites. For example, one of the reported URLs, aullinkatt.link, has raised significant alarm. Users noted that it appeared newly registered and appeared questionable upon searching online, reinforcing the argument that it is indeed a scam. This reflects a common tactic used by scammers to instil a sense of urgency and trick victims into divulging personal information or making unnecessary payments.
Reasoning Behind Classification
- Consistent User Reports: The chorus of complaints regarding the same text message claim indicates a systematic approach by scammers using this phone number to target unsuspecting individuals.
- Lack of Legitimate Business Connection: Users repeatedly highlighted that they have no affiliations with Linkt or any overdue payments they were referenced about, leading to broad consensus around it being spam.
- Dodgy Links and New Domains: The suspicious links mentioned, especially the ones connected to a domain registered just days before receiving complaints, further substantiate the scam classification.
