Recently, the phone number 0473 597 377 has raised significant alarm amongst users, with reports categorising it as a scam, specifically targeting individuals under the guise of a banking service. As part of a growing trend, fraudulent operations are utilising spoofed banking notifications to lure unsuspecting victims.

User Reports and Analysis

Based on multiple user accounts from the beginning of March 2023, there is a clear indication that this number sends deceitful messages concerning device registrations for supposed banking services. Users reported receiving texts erroneously claiming that their new device had been registered for the Macquarie Mobile Banking App, a service they do not utilise. Such tactics are characteristic of phishing scams aimed at acquiring personal and financial information.

The Specifics of the Scam

This particular scam is insidious in its approach. Messages sent from 0473 597 377 / 0473597377 promote a sense of urgency, prompting recipients to call a different phone number—0345 176 470—if they have any concerns about their account. How to Handle Calls or Messages from 0473 597 377

If you receive a message or call from 0473 597 377, it is crucial to remain cautious and adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Do Not Respond: Avoid replying to the message or calling back the provided number, as this can confirm to scammers that your number is active.
  • Verify Independently: If you believe the communication may relate to your accounts, contact your bank directly using the official contact number you have on file, rather than any number provided in the message.
  • Report the Scam: Inform your local authorities or report the number to consumer protection agencies. Services like Reverseau can assist in identifying questionable numbers.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the increasing reports about 0473 597 377 underscore the necessity of being vigilant against such scams. By being informed about common fraudulent tactics and implementing these protective measures, you can safeguard your personal information effectively. If unsure about a call or message, conducting a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia can further clarify its legitimacy, helping to address the question: Who Called Me Australia?

This number is a scam pretending to be Macquarie Bank. They informed me that my new device had been registered for their mobile banking app, but I do not have any account with Macquarie whatsoever.

I think this number is trying to scam me. Here is the text it sent:

Macquarie: Your new device has been registered for the Mobile Banking App. If you don't recognise this, call us immediately on 0345 176 470.

Of course, I have not replied, nor have I called that number. I have no business with "Macquarie" (whatever it's supposed to be). So, I think this is a scam text.
