Facebook Marketplace Impersonation Reports for 04 6876 6104
Two contributors have reported scam activity linked to 04 6876 6104 (also written as 0468766104), involving fraudulent Facebook Marketplace sellers using fake identities. Both reports describe callers posing as legitimate sellers advertising items, then requesting payment via PayID before delivering goods or services. The pattern suggests coordinated impersonation activity on the mobile Optus network targeting buyers on Facebook Marketplace.
The reports indicate the scammers behind 0468766104 use real-sounding names like "Adam Baldwin" and "Dianne" to build false credibility. Once a victim agrees to purchase, they request an immediate deposit through PayID, leveraging urgency and competitive pressure (claiming another buyer is interested) to rush the transaction.
What Callers from 04 6876 6104 Claim
One contributor described a seller advertising an item on Facebook who provided 04 6876 6104 as the PayID contact number. The scammer claimed to be "Adam Baldwin" and created artificial urgency by playing the victim off against another interested buyer, pressuring them to pay the full amount immediately via PayID.
A second report about 0468766104 involved a scammer operating under the name "Dianne" who followed a similar pattern: advertise an item, collect a deposit, then request additional funds. After receiving the initial payment, the scammer blocked the buyer on Facebook and refused to transfer money back or provide the promised item.
Report Patterns and Tactics
Both reports involving 04 6876 6104 follow nearly identical scam sequences. The scammers use fake seller identities on Facebook Marketplace, request deposits via PayID using this mobile number, then disappear after blocking the victim. The common thread is impersonation (using false names) combined with urgency tactics (competing buyers, time pressure, immediate payment demands). Both contributors reported losing contact after initiating payment, with the scammer becoming unreachable or blocking them on Facebook.

If someone calling from 04 6876 6104 contacts you about a Facebook Marketplace item or requests a PayID deposit:
- Do not: Send money via PayID or any transfer method before receiving the item; trust the caller's identity based on their word; engage further if they pressure you to pay immediately
- Do: Ask for proof of identity and contact details independent of the call; use Facebook's in-app messaging for all communication with the seller; report the account to Facebook immediately if you suspect fraud; block 04 6876 6104 on your phone
Never use PayID to pay a seller you haven't verified through official Facebook Marketplace channels. Legitimate sellers should be willing to use Facebook's protected payment system or standard bank transfers with clear transaction records.

What Our Users Reviewed
The seller was advertising an item on Facebook using the name Adam Baldwin. He was playing me off against another buyer and trying to get me to pay the full amount for the item. He gave me this phone number to make the deposit to using PayID and it was not his name. Anyway he did not get me.
Stay away from this number. Big scammer on Facebook under Dianne. Deposit the funds and then request more money.
Said would transfer the $ back and then blocked on Facebook.

WRITE A REVIEWFrequently Asked Questions
Why would a Facebook Marketplace seller ask me to use PayID instead of Facebook's payment system?
Legitimate sellers use Facebook's official payment system because it offers buyer protection. If someone advertising on Facebook asks you to use PayID and provides a number like 04 6876 6104, they're likely avoiding Facebook's safeguards intentionally. Scammers prefer PayID because payments are final and irreversible, giving them a way to take your money without delivering goods.
How do I verify a seller's identity before using PayID with 0468766104 or similar numbers?
Never rely on a phone number provided during initial contact. Instead, ask the seller questions about the item that only the real owner would know, request photos from multiple angles, check their Facebook profile history and reviews, and always use Facebook's built-in messaging to communicate. If they pressure you to contact them via phone or PayID directly, that's a red flag suggesting 04 6876 6104 or similar scam involvement.
What should I do if I've already sent money to 0468766104 via PayID?
Contact your bank immediately and explain you sent money via PayID to a scammer. While PayID transfers are typically final, your bank may be able to reverse the transaction or flag the receiving account. Report the scam to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au), ACMA (acma.gov.au), and the Facebook account to Facebook directly. Block 04 6876 6104 on your phone and monitor your account for suspicious activity.
How are scammers using fake names like 'Adam Baldwin' and 'Dianne' on Facebook?
Facebook allows anyone to create accounts with any name. Scammers create fake profiles with convincing names and photos to pose as legitimate sellers. They often use real-sounding names to build false credibility. When you search the name later, the account using 04 6876 6104 may already be deleted or blocked. This is why it's critical to verify sellers through their profile history and feedback, not just their stated name.
Why do these scammers block buyers on Facebook after taking payment?
Blocking is part of the scam exit strategy. After receiving payment to their PayID, the scammer using 0468766104 or similar numbers blocks the victim on Facebook to prevent complaints, demands for refunds, and negative reviews. This also makes it harder to report the account because the victim can no longer access the fake profile. It's a deliberate tactic to vanish after taking money.
What's the difference between this Facebook Marketplace scam and other impersonation scams?
This scam targets buyers actively looking to purchase items on Facebook Marketplace by posing as sellers. Unlike government or bank impersonation scams that create panic, 04 6876 6104 scammers exploit trust and perceived legitimacy of a real marketplace. They use urgency (competing buyers) and emotional investment (interest in an item) rather than threats to pressure payment. They're also harder to report because they operate within Facebook's platform initially.
