Understanding 0461 177 776

The phone number 0461 177 776 / 0461177776 has recently been flagged by several users as a source of suspicious SMS messages. While many Australians use SMS notifications to inform customers about parcels, the recent reports suggest that this particular number is a fraudulent application attempting to trick recipients into divulging personal information.

Analysis of User Reports

In one of the most notable reports from 26 July 2023, a recipient received an SMS indicating that their "parcel was unable to be delivered." As they had not ordered any parcels, they understandably felt suspicious. The message included a link to a website purportedly affiliated with Australia Post; however, the URL suggested a non-official site. Users reported that the so-called tracking number provided could not be found through legitimate Australia Post channels. This strongly indicates that the SMS was part of a phishing scam aiming to collect personally identifiable information.

Classification: Suspicious and Potentially Malicious

Given the nature of the message and user feedback, 0461 177 776 / 0461177776 falls into the category of a "suspicious" or "spam" number. The hallmark traits of this scam include:

  • Falsely identifying as a legitimate service (in this case, Australia Post).
  • Promising delivery notifications without any actual delivery pending.
  • Redirecting recipients to a fraudulent website requesting personal information.

How to Handle Calls and Messages from This Number

Receiving an SMS from 0461 177 776 / 0461177776 should be treated with caution. Here are some recommendations on how to handle such communications:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid responding to the SMS or providing any personal information.
  • Verify Independently: Visit the official Australia Post website directly to track any parcels using the information you’ve received.
  • Report Suspicious Messages: Use legitimate channels to report the scam, either through your mobile service provider or report to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, scams of this nature become more sophisticated. It's not phone call, SMS I got. It says my percel isn't able to delivery. But I don't know what is my percel, because I did't have any such percel at all. And there was web add, track number I saw.

Post.client.service.cc.

Loading this web site, it looks Australia post site, but web add is post client service. Web page asaks your information, but should't give anything about you.

I used Real Australia post web page, put that track number, but track number is didn't fund.

That page asks your information, shouldn't put in anything about you.

I don't think it is real, also my phone says, this phone number is Spam.
