04 5509 5143 (0455095143) shows mixed activity: one legitimate Nepean Hospital call, but also suspicious SMS messages impersonating clinics with phishing links and gift card scams.

Mixed Reports for 04 5509 5143

The number 04 5509 5143 (also written as 0455095143) has generated three community reports with conflicting signals. One contributor confirmed a legitimate call from Nepean Hospital via this Telstra mobile number. However, two other reports describe suspicious SMS messages claiming to be from medical clinics, employing tactics commonly seen in healthcare-related scams.

The pattern suggests this number may have been compromised or is being spoofed by scammers impersonating legitimate healthcare providers. The mix of legitimate and fraudulent activity requires careful verification before engaging.

What Senders from 04 5509 5143 Claimed

One SMS came from someone claiming to represent SunSkin Clinic, a skin cancer screening service. The contributor had never been a patient at that clinic, which was an immediate red flag. The message included a contact number presented as legitimate, but the sender was unknown to the recipient.

A second suspicious SMS was more sophisticated. It referenced the contributor's actual name, named a specific clinic the person had visited months earlier, and mentioned their university. The message offered a $30 gift card for completing a survey - a classic too-good-to-be-true offer designed to lower defences. This level of personal detail suggests data from a previous healthcare interaction was used to build credibility.

Report Patterns and Context

The three reports span different dates and channels. The legitimate Nepean Hospital call came through as a standard call answer in February 2026. The two suspicious SMS messages arrived via text in January 2025 and August 2024, suggesting repeated misuse of this number over time.

One contributor specifically noted the SMS included a phishing link, indicating an attempt to harvest personal information or credentials. The use of real clinic names and personal details in these messages suggests the scammers have access to healthcare provider customer lists or have harvested data from public sources.

What to Do If You Receive a Call from 04 5509 5143

If 04 5509 5143 calls claiming to be from a hospital or clinic:

  • Do: Verify independently by hanging up and calling the hospital or clinic directly using a phone number from their official website
  • Do: Be cautious if the caller mentions specific clinics you've visited - this is likely harvested data
  • Do not: Confirm personal details, address, or Medicare number without independent verification
  • Do not: Feel rushed by urgency claims about appointments or screening results

The presence of one legitimate report does not mean all calls from 0455095143 are safe. Scammers often spoof real numbers or use compromised accounts.

It states my name, the clinic I went a few months ago, and my university. Said finishing a survey will return a $30 gift card. Seems highly possible a scam.

This is scam. Received in text as my medical centre and stated my doctor has put aside time just for me for a health check. I've never seen a doctor at this centre, only a registered nurse.

Don't ever click on links in random messages. I know I didn't and will be blocking and deleting.

Received a text message from this number.

It identified me by name and went on to read.

"Hi @($&#%, your doctor at Palmerston GP Super Clinic would like you to attend a Heart Health Check in the next 8 weeks. Please call 0889198919 to book.

For more information view here: gosh.re/Pyo7GkE.

Reply STOP to opt out."

I think the best part of this is I don't attend the Palmerston GP Super Clinic and my Doctor who I do see regularly is quite happy with my current health state.

The scary thing is that people will read these and either call the number or go to the link for more information and be caught by these scum.

When will the telcos deal with these people by alerting AFP.

Received a message the day after being discharged from hospital: "Hi [name]

Nepean Hospital ED has sent you helpful information for your visit.

View here:

Gosh.re/PRnVK4P.

Opt out reply STOP"

Also received another from the same number asking for 'feedback'.

Very clear scam - what hospital asks for feedback on the emergency department? Do NOT EVER click links from an unknown message.

Recieved a message from this number, refferencing someone I have never heard of, an emergency department and a link to "Information" about an upcoming visit. (Never click any links in random messages).

If this is genuinely a medical department, it's shocking that they're giving out patient information to wrong numbers. Highly unprofessional.

If it is not, then it's likely a scam, but again I'm not going to click a link in a random message or reply to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 04 5509 5143 a safe number to answer?

Not necessarily. While one contributor confirmed a legitimate Nepean Hospital call from 04 5509 5143, two other reports describe the number being used for SMS scams impersonating medical clinics. The number may be spoofed or compromised. If it calls, verify independently before sharing any information. Never rely on the number itself as proof of legitimacy.

What was the SunSkin Clinic SMS from 0455095143 about?

One contributor received an SMS from 04 5509 5143 claiming to represent SunSkin Clinic (a skin cancer screening service), but they had never been a patient there. The message included what appeared to be a legitimate contact number, but the sender was unknown. This is a common tactic - scammers use real clinic names to build trust. Always verify directly with the clinic using their official website contact details.

How did the scammer know my name and clinic history in the SMS from 04 5509 5143?

One SMS from 0455095143 included a contributor's actual name, a clinic they'd visited months earlier, and their university name. This personal data suggests the scammer has access to healthcare customer records, public databases, or information from a data breach. This level of detail is designed to make the fraudulent message appear credible. Never assume a message is safe just because it contains personal information.

What should I do if I clicked a link in an SMS from 0455095143?

One contributor reported a phishing link in an SMS from 04 5509 5143. If you clicked it, change your passwords immediately, especially for banking, email, and healthcare portals. Consider contacting your bank if you entered financial details.

Can I trust calls from 04 5509 5143 because Nepean Hospital uses it?

One legitimate report confirms Nepean Hospital has used 0455095143 to contact patients. However, scammers can spoof legitimate hospital numbers or compromise accounts. Always verify any healthcare-related call independently - hang up and call the hospital directly using their official contact number from their website. Never confirm personal details during an unsolicited call, even if the number appears legitimate.

Is the $30 gift card offer from 0455095143 real?

No. One contributor received an SMS from 04 5509 5143 offering a $30 gift card for completing a survey, using personal details to appear credible. This is a classic scam tactic - the offer is designed to lower your guard. Legitimate clinics do not offer gift cards via unsolicited SMS. Do not engage with the message or click any links. Report it as spam to 0429 999 888.
