    Received a text from this mobile number. TEXT READ: "It's time to book. Annual smoke alarm service by Detector Inspector is now due for (my address). Book now at detc.in/4MExbh or call on 85475812" My smoke detectors are check every 6 months by me and work fine. I don't know if this is a scam or not but I'm not clicking on any link in text or calling any number that looks dodgy.

    This company was organised through my real estate agent to come and service my electricity and smoke detectors. They send random contractors out. After the so called inspector haf left we noticed our possessions had been stolen BEWARE.

    Legitimized scam with somewhat questionable tactics. Tenants or Landlord alike, BEWARE! This is not a legitimate business transaction- do not allow this business to make you believe they need to check your fire alarms/smoke detectors, don’t give any private information to them. If it was a legitimate transaction they would have your information from the real estate, & you’d be expecting their call. Don’t speak to them believe you me any transaction requests that are required will always be actioned first through your real estate agent directly to you if you are a renter. This is a fairly clever scam I believe because it seems somewhat legitimate initially until you realise it’s not.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
