0444 444 444 - 0444444444: Mobile number, provided by Telstra Limited

This number texted me because of tropical cyclone Alfred, which affects south east Queensland. It was giving me information on the cyclone. I can confirm this is not a scam, and is a legitimate number for emergencies.

This number is used by the government to send out emergency alerts about dangerous situations and missing persons. I live on the South Coast and received multiple important messages from this number during the 2020 bushfires to evacuate immediately, as well as alerts for missing persons nearby. I can confirm that this is NOT a scam.

The message from this number seems to be from emergency services, but it is wise to verify through official Australian police social media channels. Spoofing is a possibility, so it's safer to avoid clicking any links from the number 0444 444 444 unless you are completely sure they are safe.

Received a text from this number claiming to be from the WA police missing person alert, my phone identified it as a spam then blocked & deleted it.

This number called me claiming to be from emergency services in Gold Coast, warning of severe thunderstorms in my area and urging me to click links for more information. However, the weather is actually sunny here and there is no indication of any rain on the radar. It's clear that this is an obvious scam.

I found a link from the NSW Police regarding safety and prevention, specifically about a geo-targeting SMS system.

Just received sms about missing person with link to twitter for photo, usually a photo is supplied in sms first time I received with a link, I do not open links as it could be a scam.

If this is a new strategy by police then it's a dismal failure just show photo of wanted or missing person without a link.

Received a call from this number, supposedly St Marys Police searching for a missing person with dementia and showing a link to see what the person looked like. This is very likely to be a scam based on previous messages on here it is wise not to activate the link.
