Identifying the Risk: 0428 919 697

The phone number 0428 919 697 / 0428919697 has raised eyebrows among users in Australia, particularly due to reports suggesting it may be involved in suspicious activities linked to Telstra. Recent reviews indicate that this number sends unsolicited SMS messages, presenting itself as a communication from Telstra without any prior consent from recipients.

The Nature of the Suspicion

According to reviews, a common theme arises from messages received from 0428 919 697 / 0428919697. Users report receiving texts at odd hours – specifically, messages arriving at 6.13am and 6.14am West Australian time. These texts suggest calling Telstra at a specific toll-free number, 1800 226 848 / 00226848, for further inquiries. However, upon attempting to reach Telstra, users found no records of such messages or provided assistance, indicating a deeper issue.

Potential Phishing Scam

This behaviour is characteristic of phishing scams, where cybercriminals masquerade as legitimate businesses to extract personal information. The lack of transparency in the messages and the inability to verify the sender through official channels point towards malicious intent.

What to Do if You Receive Messages from 0428 919 697

  • Do Not Respond: Engaging with the number could lead to verification of active numbers for future scams.
  • Report the Number: You can report 0428 919 697 / 0428919697 through the appropriate channels, including your mobile provider or the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
  • Block the Number: Consider adding the number to your phone’s block list to prevent future communications.
  • Verify Legitimate Sources: If you suspect that the message may be from Telstra, kindly contact them through officially listed numbers or channels, rather than the ones provided in suspicious SMS.

While it may seem harmless at first glance, it is crucial to remain vigilant against such apparent attempts to impersonate trusted companies. For users curious about unknown callers or message senders, conducting a Reverse Phone Lookup in Australia can provide clarity on who has reached out and whether they warrant a response.

In conclusion, if you've encountered 0428 919 697 / 0428919697, it’s best to treat it with caution owing to its reported dubious activities connected to Telstra communications. Always prioritise your safety and security when uncertain.

I received an SMS from this number yesterday morning at 6.13am and today 6.14am West Australian time.

To tell me to have a good day and if I have any questions to call Telstra on 1800226848. When I rang this number Telstra were not open at that time and would be open to calls at 8am.

I telephoned 3 divisions of Telstra and on the phone for over an hour and a half and no-one can see these text messages from this number to turn them off.

I did have an Apple Music debit of $11 cancelled and reversed last Friday and got a confirmation from this number so some one at Telstra is using it!!!

All I want is for Telstra to stop sending me junk SMS messages.
