Hang up is frequently from a computer, ascertaining if a real person will answer AND often recording your name as many of us answer the phone "Hello, Mary speaking". It will mean you'll likely be hit by a lot of calls in the near future trying to flog things to you from cheap electricity to websites. If you're a private person you can register on the Do Not Call Register, but the Government, in it's infinite wisdom, will not allow a business owner to register. They have to suffer the calls, which is exceedingly unfair to small business, especially tradies who are very much impacted by the interruptions.
Scam rings daily often several times a day. Annoying and no matter what I do these calls persist.
I have received eleven calls from this number in the last two days. All hang ups. What can be done about this?
A sales lead calling up after 5 pm and offering to 'compare your energy'. The lead will have your attention by saying, "we're partners with [your energy provider]" - yes but you are an energy comparison that is making money off referrals. They will further tell you that "we have access to special rates that cannot be seen publicly" - yes but I do not want these sales calls anytime I have just paid my quarterly energy bill, and I can contact my current provider if I am not happy with my rates.
They will say "it takes 2-3 minutes" when actually the lead will pass on your details to a salesperson and it is all a complete nuisance to bother people who do not know how to do their own research and surrender their personal details to a third-party. These third parties have given up knocking doors and want to sweet talk their way in making commission and ripping you off.
Am getting multiple calls from various numbers including this number. Asian accent telemarketer, stated she was calling from a company called "Compare your Energy". Again I requested my number be taken off their list. I asked where they got my number from and she said from a broker who told them I was interested in comparing my energy. I have paid and registered with a company recommended by Choice magazine to compare energy called Bill Hero so it's possible my number was leaked by them but I think it more likely, that it was leaked by one of the energy companies when I switched providers as I joined Bill Hero about 6 months ago and only recently started getting these calls. I suspect my number may have been given out from Sumo energy as I was getting my gas supplied by them and recently switched. I Googled their name "Compare your Energy" and found a company by that name in Queensland. I requested they take my name off their list - again.... grrrr:(
Calling from the Philippines. Trying to say it's not a sales call but they're from Compare your Energy and offering to do a free quotation to compare electricity and gas. When I said that's a sales call? She just abruptly hung up.
