Types of Messages Reported

Users have reported receiving a range of messages from this number, indicating a pattern of non-legitimate communications. Here’s a breakdown of the nature of these texts:

  • Superannuation Phishing Attempt: One report describes a text purportedly from Intrust Super, seeking personal information under the guise of an upcoming annual statement. This tactic is a common phishing scam, where scammers aim to collect sensitive information by masquerading as a legitimate company.
  • Promotional Spam: Reports also highlight promotional messages, including those related to bedding sales. Such unsolicited marketing texts are often sent in bulk and can be annoying for recipients.
  • Debt Collection Threats: Another message urged the recipient to call a different number to avert a debt recording, further indicating that these communications are not from credible sources.

How to Handle Calls and Texts from 0421 267 435

If you receive a call or text from this number, consider the following precautionary steps:

  • Do Not Respond: Engaging with the sender can lead to further communication and possible attempts at extracting personal information.
  • Verify Independently: If a message claims to be from a legitimate business, reach out to the company using contact details from their official website, not the ones provided in the suspicious message.
  • Report the Number: You can report spam messages to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) or your mobile service provider, helping to combat such schemes.
  • Utilise Reverse Phone Lookup: Tools like Reverseau can aid in identifying the owner of any unknown numbers, providing peace of mind regarding who is attempting to contact you.

Received text on 27/10/15 regarding a membership (details were correct, but out of date), then got the bedding company promotion text 26/12/15.

Replied to the first one thinking it was legitimate, but will be contacting the company to find out if they know anything.

Second text is obviously a scam.

Both came with the 'reply stop' option, which I replied to the second text with. Shall see if that works.

I got a txt message claiming to be Intrust Super stating that my annual statement for my superannuation was nearly ready. All they needed was me to provide my email address so they could send it securely. As the txt started with Hi and my name, I was suspicious and haven't replied. I would definitely be ringing Intrust myself from a number I know that they have provided me. Iniation is the key, I would be very wary.
