Understanding the Threat Behind 0418 855 022

The phone number 0418 855 022 / 0418855022 has been flagged by numerous users as a source of scam communications. Initial reports indicate that the caller has been impersonating reputable companies, primarily DHL and various energy providers, to extract personal information, particularly credit card details.

Nature of the Scam: Impersonation

Users have detailed interactions that reveal a common pattern of deception. One report from 05/05/2022 indicates that the number was used to claim it was from DHL, asking for credit card information under the guise of an outstanding payment for package delivery. This constitutes a typical phishing scam aimed at financial exploitation.

Moreover, another report dated 16/02/2023 revealed a text message from the same number, stating: "unfortunately we can't deliver your package due to an unpaid fee". This message cleverly uses urgency to provoke anxiety, potentially prompting victims to click on malicious links or share sensitive data. The addition of phrases like "click here for more info" is a well-known tactic intended to draw unsuspecting users into a trap.

Suspicious Activity Reports

1everal users have also commented on the suspicious nature of interactions with this number. One particular report on 21/05/2024 raised alarms as the user received texts that appeared to belong to multiple companies. Such instances suggest that the number could be a 'spoofed' number, where scammers use legitimate branding to mask their true intentions. This raises significant concerns as it showcases a trend where one number is used to initiate contact with victims through different channels.

Additionally, on 26/09/2024, a bewildering message regarding someone named Wayne's subscription to Lumo Energy was received from this number. As the user has no existing relationship or knowledge of Lumo Energy, they prudently decided to blacklist the number, highlighting an effective response to avoid falling victim to scams.

How to Handle Calls from 0418 855 022

  • Do Not Share Personal Information: Never provide credit card numbers or any sensitive information in response to unsolicited calls or texts.
  • Verify the Caller: Reach out directly to the company they claim to represent using official contact methods before taking any action.

  • Utilise Technology: Consider using spam identification apps that can help filter out odd numbers.
  • Blacklist Unwanted Numbers: If you identify a number as a scam, use your phone's settings to block future communications.

In conclusion, 0418 855 022 / 0418855022 is a fraudulent phone number used for scamming purposes, primarily through identity impersonation and deceitful techniques. If you encounter calls or texts from this number, remain vigilant and protect your personal information.

What Our Users Reviewed

I received a message intended for someone named Wayne regarding signing up for Lumo Energy. The message requested that I reply, but I chose not to. Later, I received another text from Lumo (without a phone number) confirming that they had received Wayne's request. Since I don't have Lumo saved in my contacts, I am considering blacklisting this number.

Something extremely sus about texts from this number. Shows copies of genuine texts I have from 3 different companies,1 from 2022 and 2 from 2024. In no other situation have I ever had texts from different companies on the one number.

Left text message - "unfortunately we can't deliver your package due to an unpaid fee" & click here for more info blah blah.

A caller claiming to be from DHL asked for my credit card details to pay for the delivery of a package. This raises red flags about potential fraud.
