Understanding the Threat: 0415 686 037

The phone number 0415 686 037 / 0415686037 has recently caught the attention of users across Australia, leading to numerous reports claiming it's connected to a scam, particularly masquerading as a delivery notification. Based on user feedback, we can categorically classify this number as a conduit for a parcel delivery scam.

How the Scam Works

Victims reported receiving SMS messages that falsely claim to provide information about an unsuccessful delivery attempt. Typical messages may instruct recipients to visit a fraudulent link that resembles a legitimate tracking page related to Australia Post. For instance, one user received a message stating: "Notice: Delivery on June 26 was unsuccessful," purportedly instructing them to monitor their parcel status via an unverified link.

Key Indicators of This Scam

  • Generic Templates: Scammers often use generic templates for SMS notifications, lacking specific delivery details or authentic tracking numbers.
  • Suspicious Links: The links provided in these messages typically lead to sites that mimic legitimate company websites, often capturing personal information or credentials.
  • Timing of Messages: Receiving such a message soon after a legitimate parcel delivery is a red flag, often suggesting a targeted attack.

Recommendations for Dealing with 0415 686 037

If you receive a message or call from this number, it is crucial to follow these steps:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid clicking on any links or responding to the message. Engaging can lead to further scams or data theft.
  • Verify Independently: If you have questions about a delivery, visit the official Australia Post website directly, or contact their customer service using verified contact details.
  • Report the Incident: Consider reporting the scam to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or using the Scamwatch website to contribute to broader scam awareness.

Yes. Also received a text from this number yesterday with a link to trackauspost. Digital and this looks like a scam to me, as there is no tracking number- would usually go to Aus post website and put in tracking number.

This morning I received an SMS from +61 415 686 037 stating:

"Notice: Delivery on June 26 was unsuccessful. Kindly go to www.track-auspost. Network to monitor your parcel and arrange for a second delivery attempt."

This is definitely a scam SMS... However, interestingly, an expected AustPost parcel WAS successfully delivered to me on 26 June 2023. That SMS is either a big coincidence or maybe AustPost is being 'monitored' or has been hacked somehow?
